May 11, 2016 – Winter Park, Florida
Dario Cueto meets with the councilman at a bar and gives him a bribe. The councilman says his employer will be pleased, and then lets him know that there’s an investigation into Cueto coming from the police and that Cueto should be careful. His employer will be coming by soon to see the action at the Temple, because Matanza Cueto can’t be the only one having fun.
Joey Ryan def. Mr. Cisco and Cortez Castro {Ancient Medallion Triple Threat Match}
Ryan won this with a surprise roll up on Castro at 1:18. The match was nothing, and judging by how hard they were working it ended exactly when it should have. ½*
Catrina says she’s been waiting 197 years for this moment as a prisoner of darkness. She guided Mil Muertes to safety when he was in danger as a boy and then again as an adult when he was traveling the underworld after the first Grave Consequences match. Apparently by beating Cueto tonight, they will become invincible. King Cuerno is seen stalking them in the shadows.
Prince Puma, Rey Mysterio & El Dragon Azteca def. Johnny Mundo, Son of Havoc & Ivelisse {Lucha Underground Trios Championship Match}
This was messy and often stupid. These teams didn’t mesh well at all and the action felt stunted. Also, the odd-man-out trio bit is so played out at this point and it didn’t add anything particularly interesting here when Mundo & Taya caused trouble. Ivelisse caught some friendly fire from Mundo, leading to that team falling apart. Mysterio hit Havoc with the 619, illegally tagged Puma, and Puma hit the 630 senton for the win at 7:58. Not good. Taya attacked Ivelisse after the match. **
Matanza Cueto def. Mil Muertes {Grave Consequences Match}
The commentators make an interesting point for once, and say that Muertes’ experience in this match coupled with his childhood trauma make the fact that he’s done this before a disadvantage rather than an advantage. This match didn’t do much for me. The spots onto the caskets were cool at first, but there were so many that the returns were diminishing. And while it was cool that this basically turned Muertes babyface, not much else here kept this moving aside from some hard work. Cueto put Catrina in a coffin in the middle of the match, and then did the same to Muertes at 14:47 with the Wrath of the Gods. After the match, Dario opens the coffin that Catrina was in to find it empty, and then one of the costumed folks taking Muertes out of the Temple turned out to be Cuerno. ***
The councilman gets in a limousine to give the money that Cueto gave him to his employer. The lights in the limo go out and the councilman gets very nervous. His employer lights a cigar. Is Big Ryck coming back? I read in a comic that he was killed by Muertes between season 1 and season 2, but people have come back from the dead on this show before.
