Lucha Underground: Fuel to the Fire

July 8, 2015 – Los Angeles, California

Pentagon complains to his master thay Vampiro won’t fight him. His master speaks in a voice so modulated I can’t understand it, then Pentagon says he’ll destroy Ian Hodgkinson (Vampiro’s real name) instead.

The Mack def. Cage
This was a nice win for Mack, and revenge for being beaten up backstage and taken out of the trios tournament. It was a good strong style sprint, which Mack won at 4:03 with a roll up. ***

Catrina tells Son of Havoc that the Disciples of Death are coming for the Trios Championships. She gets too close and Ivelisse tells her to back off. Catrina disappears, causing Ivelisse to fall on top of Havoc. Angélico walks in, worried that they’re getting back together. Kind of funny.

Pentagon does a sit down interview with Vampiro. Vampiro apologizes for getting in the ring. Then he asks who the master is, but Pentagon isn’t talking. Things get heated when Pentagon calls Vampiro a coward. Pentagon goes off but Vampiro keeps his cool.

Mil Muertes def. Son of Havoc
This was picking up a lot of steam, but then the finish was all gaga as Ivelisse went after Catrina and the Disciples of Death attacked Angelico. Havoc, who had been doing well against the bigger man, went to save his friends and then got leveled by Muertes. Muertes hit the Flatiliner for the win at 7:09. ***

Texano cuts a promo in English in the ring, talking about how he’s always been Mexican. This seems like it would have been a fine time to speak Spanish. He wants to settle things with Chavo Guerrero once and for all at Ultima Lucha. He doesn’t care if Guerrero is injured. The Crew attacks him. Blue Demon Jr makes the save, but then he turns on Texano and hits him with a chair. Demon says he is more Mexico than Texano, and he doesn’t need Texano fighting his battles for him. The two of them will fight at Ultima Lucha. Okay, that’s a bit clumsy, but injuries necessitated it I guess.

Hernandez, Jack Evans, Johnny Mundo & Super Fly def. Aerostar, Alberto el Patron, Drago & Sexy Star
I can’t remember what Aerostar’s beef with Evans is, but otherwise everyone here has a counterpart on the other team. Weirdly, they were the low-points of this match, standing around and taking too long to get into their position for their spots. Evans’ overselling was pretty goofy, too. Patron’s big comeback at the end was a lot of fun, as was watching all the heels react differently to Star. Mundo rolled up star with a handful of tights for the win at 9:27. Good and bad stuff here, but certainly a fun way to spend ten minutes. ***

As the show is coming to a close, Pentagon attacks Vampiro. He covers him in gasoline and says that if he doesn’t accept his Ultima Lucha, his family will see him go up in flames. I was wondering why nothing in the episode referred to the episode title. He holds a zippo close, but blows it out to end the show. Neat.
