The Mack wants Sexy Star in his corner when he takes on Marty Martinez tonight. Star is afraid, but Mack gives her a pep talk and she agrees to join him.
Marty Martinez def. The Mack
The crowd gives Martinez a hard time about his creepy ass. This was probably as good as it was ever going to be. Martinez no-sold a bit to get over his psycho turn, while Mack moved around a lot faster than you’d expect (which is pretty much his whole thing). The finish was exactly what you’d expect, as Mack was about to win but the lights went out and Martinez’s sister came out. Martinez hit a second rope stomp for the win at 3:24. After the match, Martinez says his sister’s name is the Mariposa. **1/2
Drago attacks Jack Evans in the bathroom. I forgot that he lives there. PJ Black walks in and attacks Drago with nunchucks. Turns out all three of them have nunchucks but Drago is the chuck master. The numbers catch up to him though, but Aerostar makes the save with glowing nunchucks. I like that they remembered that Aerostar and Drago became friends again at the end of last season, but they very much didn’t explain how Black and Evans teamed up.
Cage def. Taya {No Disqualification Match}
Taya was taking Mundo’s place because Mundo thought beating Cage twice would be a waste of time. It’s kind of hilarious that Mundo’s personal life means that Mileena doesn’t get a job in season 2 and Taya does. Cage may have won here, but I think this devalued him a lot. Not because they couldn’t have put together a good intergender match, but because when Taya made her comebacks she just no-sold all of Cage’s offense up until that point. They did what they could, having Cage hit a beautiful suplex through a pair of tables and then having him kick out of a pin from Mundo (who ran in) and Taya after a led pip shot, but it would have helped a lot of the fundamentals worked as well as the flashy stuff. Cage hit Taya with Weapon X for the win at 6:59. **
Famous B helps a down on her luck lady named Brenda look hot and have a sick car with wizard magic. She might also be famous now. Nobody was watching him on TV, sadly. Ivelisse got Catrina to agree to a title match for next week, but if she and her buddies lose they’re fired.
Mil Muertes def. Pentagon and Prince Puma {Lucha Underground Championship Triple Threat Match}
The first few minutes saw Puma and Pentagon teaming up to fight Muertes and Muertes dominating them anyway. Muertes was so effectively controlling the match that I forgot it wasn’t a handicap match until Puma hit a DDT on Pentagon like four minutes in after they got a little distance from the champion. The middle of the match was just wild action all over the Temple. In the end, Pentagon became too focused on hurting Puma with different piledrivers and the armbreaker, but that gave Muertes time to get back to his feet. That was all the opening he needed to hit a double Flatliner and pin both opponents at 11:57. This was the first excellent match of the season. I loved the story and how unbeatable it made the champion look. If Puma and Pentagon had better focus, they could have won, but they couldn’t get over their problems with each other. After the match, Fenix comes out and demands he get his title shot next week. ****
