NXT UK 75

December 19, 2019 – Kingston upon Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire

Kenny Williams & Amir Jordan def. Sam Stoker & Lewis Howley
Damn, Pretty Deadly is a boring team. They controlled most of the match and didn’t do anything particularly interesting with it. Yeah they worked on Jordan’s arm, but that didn’t end up going anywhere. Williams’ comeback didn’t capture the crowd, and the final stretch felt kind of amateurish. Jordan pinned Howley with the Swanton Bombay at 7:59. **

Imperium is furious that they were robbed of the tag titles. They’ll win the titles at Takeover, but they don’t think they should have to prove themselves again. Later, Ligero talks about his 15 year history with Kassius Ohno. He always respected him, until they actually wrestled in New York and Ohno cheated to win. They fight next week (actually in two weeks as corrected by Nigel McGuinness on commentary later) and Ligero is going to knock some respect into Ohno. That was definitely the best promo we’ve gotten from Ligero.

Trent Seven comes to the ring for a chat. Eddie Dennis has been trying to get his attention. Dennis grabbed his hand from the crowd a while back and had a new look in his eye. And then Dennis attacked Seven’s would-be opponent a last week and offered him as a gift to Seven. Seven thinks it’s all just weird so he calls out Dennis. He thinks Dennis’s injury changed him, but he was quite creepy before he got hurt. Dennis walks to the ring, hits Seven and then challenges him for Takeover. This build has been bad.

On the day after Christmas, this show will air a best of 2019 special. After today’s episode there are only four matches left taped and three weeks until Takeover, so I aside from pushing things off with a special next week I wonder how they’ll spread that out.

Jinny def. Amale
Jimmy won this in 3:53 with the Makeover. It was a squash, but for a squash the commentators said Amale’s name more times than you’d expect. After the match, Jazzy Gabert beats up Amale. Jimmy demands she attack again and again, but Gabert eventually walks out on her. N/A

WALTER doesn’t care about Joe Coffey right now, he’s concentrating on Alexander Wolfe destroying Ilja Dragunov in two weeks so that Imperium has the tactical advantage over Gallus going into Takeover. This build has been rad.

Tyler Bate def. Noam Dar
The gimmick here is that Dar thinks he’s guaranteed a Takeover spot, so he has to prove it against a Takeover regular in Bate. I guess with Pete Dunne gone, Bate has been on the most Takeovers. This was great, because it was a Bate match that got time to develop. It wasn’t as dramatic as the Kassius Ohno match, but it has its own charm. I mean does anyone make their opponent look better than Bate? Dar looked like a technical genius here. The only drawback was the lame finish. Jordan Devlin came out to distract Bate, but Bate fought through it and hit the Tyler Driver ‘97 for the win at 17:59. The finish made Dar look pretty weak. After the match, Devlin tried to sneak in for an attack but Bate was ready. Bate challenges him for Takeover. ***¾
