It was a decent run, but NXT UK comes to an end.

Carmelo Hayes def. Ricochet {NXT North American Championship Match}
Hayes tries to get into Ricochet’s head before the match by adding his name to the list of dudes he’s already beaten on the LED screens. The match starts with a bit of Will Ospreay bullshit, which is probably an unfair name because Ricochet is as much to blame as Ospreay for the proliferation of flippy dancy routines ending in superhero poses. Later in the match, Hayes makes Ricochet pay for a superfluous flip with a sick clothesline. From there, both guys flew around the ring and got this crowd fired up in a way that they never get fired up. Ironically, the most exciting near fall came not from a high spot but from Ricochet going for a crucifix pin. Trick Williams distracts Ricochet, slowing down his shooting star press. Hayes gets out of the way and then gets an inside cradle for the win at 15:58. That was the first time that there’s been a “Takeover quality” match since they stopped doing Takeovers. Very exciting stuff that was perfect opening match fare. ****
Roxanne Perez hands out in a waterfront gazebo and thinks about how Cora Jade betrayed her. She sends Cora a threatening text and then blocks her. That’s toxic. Then, Quincy Elliot talks about his identity again. This is getting repetitive, we need a match. Then, we see that the NXT parking lot has claimed another victim as Roderick Strong has been left bloodied. Diamond Mine cuts a backstage promo about it, proving that they should not be cutting promos.
Elton Prince & Kit Wilson def. Wolfgang & Mark Coffey, Josh Briggs & Brooks Jensen, and Julius Creed & Brutus Creed {NXT UK Tag Team Championship vs. NXT Tag Team Championship Elimination Match}
Wolfgang instead of Joe Coffey? Meh. Johnny Saint wishes the Brits good luck via tweet. I’m not convinced he’s still alive. Fallon Henley, Lash Legend, Joe Coffey, and Damon Kemp are all thirds for their respective teams. This gets off to a really rough start with the terrible Briggs against the green Julius. After a bit of chaos things get cleaned up some. And thankfully, before the five minute mark, Gallus eliminates Jensen with their kick/powerslam combo. Gallus has a nice little exchange with Pretty Deadly, but the Creeds blind tag in and hit Wolfgang with the Doomsday Cannonball and the sliding lariat to eliminate him. The final stretch is decent, and it does build to a nice fever pitch. Kemp runs in to help his team, but then turns on Julius with a chair shot. Prince pins Julius for the win at 15:06. This was a mixed bag, but I mostly enjoyed it and the heel turn was well-executed. And the right team won. Looks like we’ll be getting Strong and the Creeds vs. Kemp and the Italians next. ***
Maybe the Italians have something else in mind. Tony D’Angelo wants Cameron Grimes to join him since he was abandoned by Legado del Fantasma. Grimes isn’t interested.
Mandy Rose def. Meiko Satomura and Blair Davenport {NXT UK Women’s Championship vs. NXT Women’s Championship Triple Threat Match}
Davenport beat Amale, Eliza Alexander, and Isla Dawn to become the number one contender to the UK title and squirm her way into this match. Wade Barrett defends that decision, but she could have just gotten the first title shot after unification. Having said that, the match is better off for having her in it. Rose has a ceiling, and that she didn’t have to carry much weight here meant this rose above it. As much as Rose winning bums me out, she didn’t look out of place here at all. This was better than both women’s matches the night before. Nonstop action blending everyone’s offense in a fun way. Rose hit both opponents with her running knee and pinned Davenport for the win at 13:39. ***½
Don’t forget about Alba Fyre. And don’t forget about the Heritage Cup. Nathan Frazer and Axiom will have a 2 out of 3 falls match this week in an Umaga to Heritage Cup rules. Then, Wes Lee says he knows how to beat JD McDonagh. I’m
Katana Chance & Kayden Carter def. Doudrop & Nikki ASH {NXT Women’s Tag Team Championship Match}
Is doudrop bad now? Or did her contacts fall out? She’s taking swings when she’s 3 feet away from Chance. I remember her being good, what happened? Barrett admits that the crowd is not feeling this match, but why should they? The action is subpar and the match had no build. After a meandering match, Toxic Attraction runs out and take ASH’s attention. The champs hit Doudrop with their neckbreaker/450 Splash combo for the win at 10:19. This sucked. *¾
Schism tries to recruit Grayson Waller, but he just wants to complain about Apollo Crews. His mom is mad at him too. But he doesn’t care because he’s a jerk.
Bron Breakker def. Tyler Bate {NXT Championship vs. NXT UK Championship Match}
Bate officially won the title
the night before. Click that link to see my review of that match, and a match from the week before when Noam Dar beat Mark Coffey for the Heritage Cup. Without much time to do it, they shoehorned in a nice story for this rivalry. Both guys are under incredible pressure, having been told by previous holders of both titles that it’s important that they win to preserve the legacy of their respective belts. Their entrances would have you thinking that this was being built towards a Bate win, but last night felt the same way for Drew McIntyre and we know how that worked out. The crowd prefers Bate as well. Good for Breakker giving Bate’s British style a try. Also good for him for having his longest singles match to date and not looking winded at all. Actually, he was hanging with Bate quite well. His counter to Bop and Bang was the highlight of the match for me. Bate got a couple of great near falls, but Breakker blocked the rebound lariat with a spear and won the match at 17:11. Breakker’s best match to date, and a good one for Bate as well. Many in the crowd look really disappointed. Considering Reigns, Rose, and now this, it’s been a rough weekend for main event booking decisions. ****
