Kenny Williams def. Nathan Frazier
This was excellent. Notably, it was the first Frazier match that wasn’t all about showcasing Frazier. That’s not to say that showcasing Frazier has been a bad thing by any means, but it was a good time to change things up. Williams was the star here, cheating where he could and generally being a prick while attacking Frazier’s leg. Frazier’s selling was excellent, both the leg injury itself and the confusion that came with adapting his gameplan. Williams rammed Frazier’s head into the bottom turnbuckle and hit Bad Luck for the win at 9:02. ***¼
Joe Coffey and Rampage Brown go into Sid Scala’s office to talk about the real rubber match they need to settle their score. Then, Amale vs. Meiko Satomura is coming. Later, Dave Mastiff tries to motivate Jack Starz by saying that Starz’ spot as the guy who must be beaten in order to earn a spot on the roster is a good one. I hope Starz doesn’t take that as a compliment, even if Mastiff meant it as one, because being the bare minimum dude is pretty bad. Later still, Tyler Bate says he’s happy to wrestle Mark Coffey, even though he knows it’s just part of Coffey’s competitive game with Wolfgang. Even later, Jinny says she wants to fight Aiofe Valkyrie. Also, Rohit Raja pledges his loyalty to Teoman and accepts Teoman’s order to fight Oliver Carter & Ashton Smith with him. This cult leader bit is a lot more interesting than whatever Teoman was doing against Carter & Smith on his own. Finally, Scala announces WALTER vs. Ilja Dragunov II for two weeks from now.
Mark Andrews def. Lewis Howley
This was fun but forgettable, and about what you’d expect from these two. Howley and Sam Stoker tried to cheat, but Andrews flips and flight were enough to put him away. Subculture came out to neutralize Stoker’s interference, which distracted Howley. That led to Andrews hitting the Stundog Millionaire and the Shooting Star Press for the win at 9:17. Subculture gets a tag title shot now. **¾
Blair Davenport def. Laura Di Matteo
So squishy. Davenport looked good in her dominance here, and the commentators put her over like no one else aside from Satomura. She hit a capture knee strike for the win at 3:14. N/A
Trent Seven def. Eddie Dennis
I guess this was kind of a rubber match, as they’d fought twice before in NXT UK, though those matches happened a year and a half ago. This was better than their Takeover match, mostly because they’re very familiar with each other at this point, but not as good as their dramatic Steel Corners match. Symbiosis got involved, but it wasn’t enough to stop Seven from hitting Dennis with the Birminghammer for the win at 11:35. Bate saves Seven from Symbiosis after the match with the help of some nunchucks. So Bate is now appropriating both eastern religion and eastern weaponry. ***
Is Amale vs. Satomura next week? Is Jinny vs. Valkyrie? Because if not it seems like there’s nothing planned for the 15th.
