Joe Coffey def. Eddie Dennis
This was decent enough. Dennis’s style only works in certain situations and it didn’t feel like this was going to be one of them. But by the end, Coffey’s guttural screaming helped to make Dennis seem like a legitimate opponent. The finish here didn’t really work though. Dennis’s boys (are they still called the Hunt now that it’s Tyson T-Bone instead of Wild Boar) put down Mark Coffey & Wolfgang on the floor, but then Joe won anyway while Primate & T-Bone just stood around staring at their victims. That’s so weird. Coffey hit AwRaBestFurThaBells for the win at 8:29. **¾
Ilja Dragunov is still triggered by back chops. Then, Coffey tells Rampage Brown he understands how it feels to lose to WALTER and that he still wants a rematch. Later, Aiofe Valkyrie says her match against Meiko Satomura is next week. Then, we get a look at Emilia McKenzie. Later still, Amir Jordan demands a rematch against Kenny Williams. It’ll be a no disqualification, loser leaves NXT UK match. Then, Rohan Raja says he’s debuting next week against Teoman. It’s a little weird his new name is so similar to his former tag partner Rohit Raju’s name. I suppose it’s a bit more accessible to the normies than Gursinder Singh was. Teoman responds, and I still don’t think I understand what his gimmick is. Next week’s main event will be a six-man tag between Gallus and Dennis’s team which is definitely not called the Hunt.
Sam Gradwell def. Dave Mastiff
Nope, I don’t like that. This was slow and gloppy. Gradwell is not interesting, and putting him over gatekeeper Mastiff makes me very nervous. Gradwell worked over Mastiff’s back and then hit a Death Valley Bomb for the win at 4:54. *¾
Jinny def. Dani Luna
I liked the parts where Luna tossed Jinny around the ring. I disliked the parts where Jinny is still the one being pushed despite not being very good and showing off how she’s not very good here. Conners distracted Luna and Jinny hit her with a Koppo Kick for the win at 4:05. She continues to beat up Luna after the match until Flash Mandrews makes the save. More mixed tag matches coming up I guess. *¾
Tyler Bate & Trent Seven def. Sha Samuels & Noam Dar
The commentators mention that there might be ring rust because it’s been over a year since Mustache Mountain has teamed… but it’s been longer since Samuels & Dar have teamed and they’ve never done so in NXT UK. I’d have been really impressed if that bit of info had been shared on commentary as well. It’s also a little weird to hear Samuels call Seven “Grandad” when they’re only like three years apart in age. Anyway, this was a good time, though it would probably have been better if the heel team worked more as a team. As it is, this was a Mustache Mountain reunion special and as such it accomplished what it appeared to set out to accomplish. They hit Samuels with a diving kneedrop/Birminghammer combo for the win at 12:50. Cool. ***¼
