Before we start, how is the Trent Seven vs. Jordan Devlin storyline going to work? Are they going to hold off on it until Devlin takes the title off of Escobar? I’m curious, but the potential to make this nonsensical is massive.
Tyler Bate def. Dave Mastiff {Heritage Cup Rules Match}
This is only the second ever singles match between these two. They kept things friendly in the first round. Mastiff stayed on Bate’s arm in the second round, but Bate picked up the pace and caught Mastiff with a sunset flip in 1:35 of the round to win the first fall. In the third fall, Mastiff counters a fireman’s carry with a nasty crucifix bomb to win the second fall at 1:27 of the round. Mastiff tries to keep up the momentum with powerful slams in the fourth, but Bate survives. Bate seems spent in the fifth round, but a Koppo Kick stops Mastiff in his tracks. Bate is able to get the airplane spin he was looking for earlier and then finishes Mastiff with the Spiral Tap at 2:34 of the round. They did a nice job of cranking up the drama with each subsequent round, though I think this would have felt even better-paced had Bate won the first fall at the end of the first round instead of the middle of the second. ***¼
Aiofe Valkyrie pumps herself up in the mirror. Nina Samuels cleans up Xia Brookside’s flat. Primate & Tyson T-Bone attack Wild Boar as punishment for being injured. Looks like the Hunt has a new member. Amale says some stuff about being French. Gallus vows to get back on top. Ilja Dragunov is still crazy. Trent Steven is going to weigh in live on the Bump next week for his Cruiserweight Championship match. Won’t Devlin already be in the States? I think this storyline is going to break continuity. Anyway, Bate has been supporting him with his weight loss. Ben Carter has changed his name to Nathan Frazer. He doesn’t give a good reason why that’s his name, so I assume it’s just because Oliver Carter was there first. But why Nathan? What is happening on this show?! WALTER will make a statement next week, perhaps about going to America per last night’s tease.
Teoman def. Danny Jones
Teoman has a weird dubstep entrance song. That doesn’t feel in line with his vignettes at all. This was a total squash, which Teoman won with a crossface. Too many people in the various WWE brands use a crossface at 3:35. Remember when that move was banned? Let’s ban it again for all but one person. It’s too prevalent as a finisher. N/A
Kenny Williams & Amir Jordan def. Flash Mordan Webster & Mark Andrews
The gimmick is that Williams is willing to cheat a bit but Jordan doesn’t want to. This was pretty zippy. Williams hit Webster with a low blow in the corner, upsetting Jordan. Still, Williams immediately hit Webster with a spiked bulldog for the win at 10:55. The finish broke the match’s momentum, but the storyline is more important here anyway. ***
Piper Niven & Jack Starz def. Jinny & Joseph Conners
Nigel McGuinness says that Stars & Niven have become a rather charming team. When did that happen, Nigel? Two weeks ago when she picked him at random to be her partner or last week when they cut a nothing promo together that showed no personality from either? Anyway, everyone brought a good energy to this match. Niven finished Conners off with a Piper Driver and then slammed Starz onto him for the win at 9:43. I don’t know what the point of this was, but I suppose it gave Niven some of the juice back that she’d lost. And frankly, jobbing to girls is a fine use of Conners. ***
