February 11, 2021 – Newham, London
Earlier today, Flash Mandrews beat the crap out of Wild Boar in his locker room, putting today’s main event in question. That makes me think that Boar was injured in that elimination match after all. Did I not mention that in my review of that match? I meant to if not. Eddie Dennis is taking Boar’s place in tonight’s main event. I like that.
Meiko Satomura def. Isla Dawn
Thank god; this division has been in free fall. It’s not surprising, as the flagship pulled the top two stars from this brand. But that Jinny angle was brutal and Kay Lee Ray needs something interesting to do if they’re not going to go for it with Piper Niven. Anyway, this was a fine warmup for Satomura, who was shown to be human but more than a few levels ahead of Dawn. She hit the Scorpio Rising for the win at 5:28. She stares down KLR after the match. **
Rampage Brown had a sit down with Joe Coffey earlier this week. General Manager Johnny Saint chimed in for the first time in a year via video chat to book a match between them for next week. Then, we learn about Dani Luna’s powerlifting background. Now give her a feud. Then, we learn about Aoife Valkyrie’s aviary background. Now give her a feud.
It’s time for the Supernova Sessions! I wish I could pull of Noam Dar’s haircut. He fires his therapist because she’s a Ben Shapiro fan. That’s not actually why but that’s the subtext I’m picking up. Dar’s best friend Sha Samuels is the guest today. Samuels even gets to sit on the Supernova Sofa. But he’s still mad that they gave him a silly name during his debut. Dar claims he can get Samuels a match against whoever he wants, which draws out head baby Sid Scala. Dar thinks Samuels deserves a shot at the Heritage Cup as penance for the debut insult. Samuels is so excited he almost exposes a naughty Amsterdam story about Dar. Just give these two the tag titles now.
Xia Brookside and Nina Samuels will have a rematch. Whoever loses becomes the winner’s personal assistant for a month. Given how infrequently these two appear on this show, we wouldn’t even see the stipulation’s consequence at the current rate. Also, Trent Seven is training for his (currently theoretical) Cruiserweight Championship match. Later, we learn that Gallus vs. Pretty Deadly (who are sexy pilgrims now) for the tag titles will happen in two weeks. Next week, Ben Carter will be in action and Samuels gets his shot at A-Kid.
Piper Niven def. Amale
Joseph Conners comes out during the match because there’s nothing for Jinny to do but slide back into a feud with Niven. Blah. They just did these back to back vignettes for women we almost never see on this show; pair the established ladies against them! The distraction doesn’t stop Niven from hitting a cannonball that would make Shigehiro Irie proud and then the Michinoku Driver for the win at 2:20. N/A
Mark Andrews & Flash Morgan Webster def. Eddie Dennis & Primate {Street Fight}
The baddies attacked our heroes in the back before anyone could make an entrance. It’s a black jeans and camo pants kind of fight. Webster had to go it alone for a bit while Andrews convalesced backstage. It’s a bit too similar to what happened in the main event of NXT last night, with Timothy Thatcher wrestling alone while Tommaso Ciampa was laid out. This match accomplished a decent amount if what they were looking to do was get across Dennis’s resentment of Andrews. As a fight though it lost my attention quite a bit in the first half. That said, seeing Dennis get abused with kendo sticks was satisfying and the momentum shifts in the latter bits of the match were good. Flash Mandrews hit stereo dives for the win at 16:03. I almost want to rate it higher because I want to reward them for pulling off a satisfying end to a grudge feud that was (mostly) unrelated to a championship. Also for Dennis’s absolutely shredded back, yikes. ***½
This show flowed WAY better than last week’s episode. Three matches is perfect, and they announced the full card for next week’s show.
