June 26, 2019 – Donington Park, Leicestershire
Another best-of show today, though with Ridge Holland coming to the States to deal with quarantine and rumors that NXT UK tapings will resume soon in some form, I’m feeling a little less dead about this program.

Mark Andrews def. Joseph Conners
Having Conners pick this match is so dumb. Conners the bore and Andrews the spark plug more or less split the difference and had a match that never really took off but never got boring either. Andrews’ stunner transition into the shooting star finish at 6:10 was pretty dope. **¾
A-Kid talks about being a technician and an artist. He wants to paint masterpieces. We get a look at who is left alive after the sexual assault purge in NXT UK, and it looks like Mustache Mountain might be on the scrap heap with Jordan Devlin and Travis Banks because he doesn’t appear. To be fair, a lot of guys not mentioned at all in the controversy don’t appear, MM have seem absent for weeks.

Isla Dawn def. Xia Brookside
Andy Shepherd called this a technical masterclass. It’s not, but it is excellent and different and I’m glad it was recognized as such. Dawn beat Brookside in 5:09 by blocking a victory roll. I didn’t expect these two of all people to give us our first ode to Johnny Saint, but they did and it was a great chain wrestling contest. Unlike the previous match, this probably ended when it should have because they were starting to lose a bit of their momentum down the stretch, but a million points of credit to both ladies for breaking out this kind of a match and keeping it entertaining for five. ***
Dani Luna talks about her brief career in NXT UK. She lost to Kay Lee Ray in her fifth match, but she’s not going to give up. Imagine being Luna, signing with the brand just in time for the world to end and the brand to be struck with major controversy. Aside from being a weightlifter, I’m not sure I understand what her gimmick is.

Pete Dunne def. Noam Dar {WWE United Kingdom Championship Match}
Dar has shaved his beard in real life, and they’re showing this because it’s his birthday. I think that’s why they showed the Dave Mastiff match last week too. It’s been so many months since Royal Albert Hall that I forgot that the four way there was a number one contender match. Yes, I know this was taped a while ago, but I live in the WWE Network universe, baby. This is the third one-on-one match between the two and Dunne won both of their previous bouts. As for this match, listen up internet nerds: this was better than the triple threat for the North American title last week.That match relied really heavily on indy nonsense and final stretch trickery. This had none of that. It was just a dope, competitive match between two cocky guys who both thought their game plan was stronger than the others. When Dar flashed his pinky to Dunne early on and Dunne did nothing, I found it puzzling, but then it came back in the end and led to Dunne smashing the pinky and leading right into the finish at 11:36. Brilliant stuff, and a great way to officially kick off the brand. Dunne and Dar tease each other after the match, and I want a rematch stat. ****
Next week, more of the same. But there’s a chance we’ll have something new in September.
