Joe Coffey def. Tyson T-Bone
I appreciate that they went for something a little different, with T-Bone trying to outbox Coffey because he knew it was the only thing that could work. That said, nobody would or should ever buy T-Bone winning here, so it was a little long at 4:54. Coffey won with All the Best for the Bells. **
Xia Brookside is ready to show Kay Lee Ray what she’s truly made of. Ridge Holland is coming soon. Piper Niven talks about her career, from her inspiration to become a wrestler, to getting started, to coming to NXT UK, to wanting to be a roll model for kids who don’t feel confident in themselves. So she’ll probably be the next challenger to KLR after Brookside gets her shot.
Isla Dawn def. Killer Kelly
Woof, this was very ugly. Both of them seemed to have a lot of trouble figuring out where their own bodies and their opponent’s bodies were in space. They tried quite a bit and came up short almost every time. Dawn won in 4:26 with a Half & Half Suplex. *
Kassius Ohno really hates that British Strong Style took the term strong style from Antonio Inoki because they thought it was cool. With Pete Dunne gone and Trent Seven in shambles, Ohno is going to wipe up the remains of British Strong Style by finishing off Tyler Bate. This is pretty much what the Noam Dar vs. Seven feud was about, but this was a fun promo so I’ll forgive it. Bate and Ohno fight next week. Brookside and KLR fight in a non-title match next week. Also, Travis Banks and Ligero go at it again after their double pin last time.
Flash Morgan Webster & Mark Andrews nc. Zack Gibson & James Drake
The first half of this rather long match wasn’t boring, but felt disconnected from the brilliant second half. Andrews and the Grizzled Young Veterans get plenty of praise from me on a regular basis, but I want to really hand it to Webster here. He plays a desperate babyface incredibly well. The way he fought off the Shankly Gates, then stuck-and-moved as quickly as possible to create distance between himself and Gibson made it feel like he was a guy in trouble in a real fight. If they’d been able to merge the two halves of the match better and if this didn’t have a ball-strangling non-finish, I’d have gone quite a bit higher. As it is, it’s still better than the last match between these two teams from September, and one I hope we get another try at with an actual ending. Gallus and Imperium ran in for a big brawl at 19:27. ***¾
With Flash Mandrews and the GYV out of commission, Gallus and Imperium looked to close the show with a big scrap. With WALTER on their side, Imperium outnumbered the Scots. Gallus didn’t show a hint of backing down, helping to get them over with the fans (and me). Ilja Dragunov comes out and Alexander Wolfe makes room for him in the Imperium line, but Dragunov turns on them and helps Gallus! The crowd eats it up and I can’t get the smile off my face. That was just beautifully done.
