NXT UK 67

October 24, 2019 – Brentwood, Essex

Imperium starts the show and says the usual about how they’re dominant and the mat is sacred. Gallus interrupts, and It’s looking like the Scots are turning face as they hooligan troll the Europeans. I’m all for that. Gallus was going to congratulate Imperium for getting rid of British Strong Style, but they’re not happy with Imperium saying they’re on top of NXT UK. Mark Coffey gets Jolly Wally over, so that’s nice.

Xia Brookside brags about her win over Nina Samuels and reminds us that Kay Lee Ray stole her title shot from Brookside in the battle royal at the Download Festival. Brookside hopes KLR is still champ by the time she gets a rightful title shot, because revenge would be sweet.

Zack Gibson & James Drake def. Oliver Carter & Ashton Smith
On a long enough timeline, no black wrestler is safe from a black tag team partner in a WWE ring. This was a rather paint-by-numbers affair, though one with very good energy from everyone involved. The finish in particular had Drake looking fantastic and gave Smith a chance to show more personality than he usually does. The former tag champs won with Ticket to Mayhem in 7:53. They keep beating up Carter & Smith after the match but Mark Andrews & Flash Morgan Webster make the save. ***

Tyler Bate flew back to England immediately after being in Florida for NXT last night so that he could cut a backstage promo and say that he’s excited for A-Kid to get to NXT UK.

Travis Banks draw. Ligero
This was a lot more entertaining than I thought it would be. They kept up a good speed throughout, and despite one little hiccup the pinning exchanges that led to the double backslide pin finish was pretty wild to watch. Good on em both. The double pin draw occurred at 7:51. They shake hands and accept the result after the match. ***

They announce that next week, NXT UK will be on four hours earlier (gotta clear the timeslot for the crummy Saudi PPV), and that we’ll see A-Kid’s debut as well as Jordan Devlin vs. Dave Mastiff.

Trent Seven def. Noam Dar
Dar attacked Seven during his entrance and brutalized his arm, but when the match officially began Seven hit a brilliant lariat. The crowd was super hot at the top of this thing, and actually come to think of it they’ve been much better this week than last overall. This must be the beginning of the second night of tapings. Dar was back at it again, mimicking the rest of British Strong Style while attacking Seven, but Seven wrestled a smarter match in front of a more appreciative crowd through two injuries here. Seven’s selling was kind of basic and spotty, but the action was so engaging it was hard to get too hung up on that. In the end, Seven used his friends’ moves (Bate’s Bop & Bang and Dunne’s finger snap) and hit the Birminghammer for the win at 13:10. Compared to their match a few weeks ago this was just terrific. Let’s get a solid Seven singles push going. ***¾
