Noam Dar def. Ashton Smith
I thought this was going to be a straight up squash for Dar, but while it was one-sided (Dar won with the Nova Roller after a few minutes), it was also a really good showing from Smith. Dar got to do his usual faux injury bit, but Smith got a few opportunities to fight back and show that he’s a really good guy for this enhancement spot. After the match, Dar says that he has a guaranteed spot at Takeover in Cardiff, causing the commentators to wonder who he’ll fight. **¾

Tyler Bate knows he’s outnumbered against Imperium with Trent Seven on the shelf. But when he gets WALTER in the ring one-on-one he’ll become the first ever two-time champion. It’s good for them to remind people that Bate was the first champ.

The Grizzled Young Veterans come out to the ring to respond to the threat from Gallus. That brings out Gallus who is now demanding a title shot at Takeover. Mark Andrews & Flash Morgan Webster walk to the ring to fill the babyface vacuum. Takeover is in their hometown and they want in. Zack Gibson lays in the British slang real thick and I love it. He also hides behind the fact that Johnny Saint hasn’t booked a match, and makes special mention that Flash Mandrews will have to earn a title shot.

We get a video package wherein a bunch of people who won’t be on the Takeover card talk about how much it would mean to them to be on the card. Then, they show Travis Banks walking out of Saint’s office as Flash Mandrews is walking in. Banks implies that Saint said that he and Dar have about the same odds of being on the Takeover show. Flash Mandrews comes out and let us know that Saint thinks Andrews has proven himself lately, but since Webster has been injured he still needs to pick up a win.

Jazzy Gabert & Jinny def. Xia Brookside & Piper Niven
Brookside and Jinny were kind of a disaster when they were in the ring together, but every other combination of wrestlers here was decent enough. Rhea Ripley came out during the match because apparently her angle with Niven must continue, and that left Brookside alone to put up a decent fight but ultimately get hit with Gabert’s Dominator. **¼

They show another Toni Storm/Kay Lee Ray video package, focusing on their history in the ring. Storm used to idolize KLR and KLR thought Storm was a nice, bubbly kid. KLR still thinks she has Storm’s number. Later, Ilja Dragunov is being interviewed in a dark room, but Kassius Ohno breaks the illusion and interrupts. Dragunov intimidates him with grunts. They’ll fight next week.

Dave Mastiff dco. Joe Coffey
What a terrific thicc boy battle this was. They beat the crap out of each other at a pace that shouldn’t really have been possible from guys this size. A crazy suplex out of the corner led to the turnbuckle getting exposed and Mastiff getting shoved into it. Mastiff got out of trouble by busting Coffey’s eardrum. That led to my favorite spot in a match in a while as Coffey went to the top but got dizzy (plus we know from Takeover: Blackpool that he doesn’t do great on the top rope) and Mastiff used his hesitation to pull him down. The match ended with Coffey hit the Glasgow Sendoff on the apron and neither guy was able to get back in the ring. Both wanted to keep fighting but were too hurt and were easily held back by the rest of Gallus and a few referees. If there isn’t a rematch at Takeover, I riot. You’ll probably think I’m probably overrating this, but it’s got compelling storytelling, freakish action, and it makes me want to see more wrestling; it’s really what this whole wrestling fan thing is about. ***¾
