NXT 508

May 29, 2019 – Winter Park, Florida

Mia Yim def. Bianca Belair
Their first match never got out of the gate, while this one had more energy but was far more disjointed. These two are certainly not good enough to lead a match this long yet. It was also to believe Belair taking her first pinfall loss here, as while the match lasted a long time Yim didn’t string together punishing offense in a way that made it seem like Belair would stay down. Yim tugged on the braid to pull Belair in for her finisher, so points for continuity in finishes in this feud. **

Velveteen Dream cuts a promo from a selfie stick. He reminds Breeze that while his NXT run was great, his main roster run has been a bit of a disaster. Dream calls himself a Tyler Breeze upgrade. For his part, Breeze wants his spotlight back. This feud was built on one segment, and it’s better than almost anything else in wrestling.

Nigel McGuinness misuses the word “decimate” again, this time while recapping the women’s title situation. Shayna Baszler says that Io Shirai won’t have her weapons or any friends at Takeover, but the Horsewomen will still be there. By what actual logic wouldn’t Shirai have Candice LeRae with her to counter the Horsewomen?

Kushida def. Drew Gulak
It’s always really fun when Gulak comes to NXT. His match with Matt Riddle was a dope stiff bout, while this match turned into a more fast-paced catch exchange. The win (Kushida catching Gulak with a Gedo Clutch) kind of came out of nowhere, but the rest of the match was a blast. The 205 Live guys were wonderful guests today. Kushida is happy with the match and wants to make nice, but Gulak is fuming about the way he lost. Good, let’s do it again! ***

Shirai replies to Baszler’s earlier comments by saying she doesn’t need weapons to beat her. LeRae comes out and says she has Shirai’s back. Welp, that put my complaints to rest. What a shock, NXT does the logical thing because it’s right and logical.

Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan nc. Steve Cutler & Wesley Blake
This match started with Burch hitting the Jon Woo, so I was in the bag for it from the get go. Sadly, there wasn’t much match after that. Jaxson Ryker got sent to the back, but was attacked by the Street Profits after the match. Then the Profits spoiled the match (as revenge for their title match being ruined a few weeks back). Then the Undisputed Era came out and beat up everyone. They take out the resilient Ryker with a ladder and then pose with said ladder to end the show. I love how consistent this show is, even with the small things like how Ryker has been a monster and the Era putting him down is a huge deal (as sold by the commentators). N/A
