Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa didn’t appear on Raw or Smackdown this week, presumably so that their storyline in NXT could be rehabbed and molded to be more in-line with what’s happening between them on the main roster. But Amsterdam Black & Ricochet are already aligned in NXT, so there’s no reason to keep them off of the main shows. Let’s start with Raw.
February 25, 2019 – Atlanta Georgia
Amsterdam Black & Ricochet def. Dash Wilder & Scott Dawson
Black pinned Wilder in 1:57 (shown, there was no opening bell on TV) with the Black Mass. If you incorporate the pre-match fighting that happened before the commercial break, you get about three minutes of wild tag team sprinting. This was criminally short, but it did make Black and Ricochet look good and got me excited to see them team in the Dusty Classic on Wednesdays. I have a feeling this is building to a four-way tag match at Fastlane (with DIY and Gable & Roode). I also have a feeling that DIY was kept off of this episode of Raw to try to get their main roster storyline more in line with their NXT storyline. **½
February 26, 2019 – Charlotte, North Carolina
Amsterdam Black & Ricochet def. Shinsuke Nakamura & Rusev
On to Smackdown. Black pinned Nakamura in 11:21 with the Black Mass. While this was longer than the match on Raw, a good deal of it was Black playing face-in-peril to Rusev’s chokeholds and bearhugs. That said, the Charlotte audience got to see some of Ricochet and Black’s flashiness. I was just hoping for a lot more of Black and Nakamura beating the crap out of each other. Maybe down the road. These two look like an unstoppable team, so I’m very ready for their Dusty Classic matches. **¾
