Bianca Belair def. Lacey Evans, Io Shirai, and Mia Yim {Number One Contender Match}
This was over-choreographed and not very well-executed, though the final stretch had good energy. Shirai and Belair came out looking best, making me wish this match had just been between them. Belair won the thing by pinning Evans and sending her on her way to the main roster. **½
Jaxson Ryker def. Mitch Taverna
The show comes back from commercial with no commentary. I guess WWE production feels the same way about squashes as I do, which is that they should mostly be ignored and certainly not reviewed. N/A
What shouldn’t be ignored is an awesome Velveteen Dream video package. He was very missed the last few weeks. What also shouldn’t be ignored is one of Tommaso Ciampa’s dark room promos. He’s proud of Johnny Gargano for beating Amsterdam Black, and while he knows Gargano can’t fight for Ciampa’s title, he thinks his former partner should go for the North American Championship. I’m very curious to see how Gargano will convince himself that challenging Ricochet was his own idea. Also I continue to love this angle.
Roderick Strong & Kyle O’Reilly def. Otis Dozovic & Tucker Knight {NXT Tag Team Championship Match}
It’s been a year and a half since Heavy Machinery’s last tag title match. This was a total blast. Strong & O’Reilly made Tucky & Dozer look like a million bucks, making their swan song in NXT a hell of a ride. I really hope that these big fellas aren’t wasted on the main roster, because they showed here that they’re not just a comedy routine. They brought the goods! ***¾
