Dakota Kai def. Nina Samuels {Quarterfinal Match}
Samuels looked apprehensive here, making me wonder why she’s signed and Viper isn’t. Kai was mostly looking good until the finish, which was an ugly execution of the Kairopractor. **¼
Mark Andrews doesn’t want to be distracted by the Coffey brothers anymore. He wants a shot at a title. Flash Morgan Webster approaches. He wants gold too, and he thinks that they’d make a good tag team. There are tag titles coming down the line after all. Andrews is into it.
Meanwhile, Ashton Smith’s backstage promo is interrupted by Eddie Dennis. Dennis gloats about his wins in the face of Smith’s losses. This is a really weak way to start a feud.
Tyson T-Bone def. Jake Constantinou
I don’t review squashes. After the match, T-Bone bags on the competition. Then they pull the Baron Corbin/Bull Dempsey angle wherein Dave Mastiff comes out for his scheduled squash and stares down T-Bone. I’m curious just how much this will be exactly like that feud. N/A
Dave Mastiff def. Dan Moloney
I didn’t start reviewing squashes in the middle of this review. T-Bone stayed on the ramp throughout the match and they stare each other down again. N/A
Sid Scala feels like he can turn things around if he can get Johnny Saint to give him an opportunity to do so. It’s kind of cute to see jobbers getting backstage promos.
Jinny def. Millie McKenzie {Quarterfinal Match}
McKenzie is 18 years old and seems very confident in her capacity for violence. Jinny gave it as good as she got it by the end. I was really surprised by this. I hope McKenzie comes back later on, and I have no Viper remorse after watching this match. ***
Zack Gibson def. Trent Seven
It will never not make me smile to see the fans take off their shoes to show how much they hate Gibson. Gibson tries to bail on the match, but Tyler Bate blocks him from leaving. Every NXT UK main event that doesn’t involve Wolfgang has been fantastic. Can we please just keep that guy out of these things? Gibson and Seven beat the piss out of each other here. Some of the counters in this match were breathtaking. Seven understands showmanship in a way that nobody else on this roster really does, and Gibson is just such a miserable prick that you can’t help but hope he’ll lose. That made the finish here particularly tragic, as James Drake runs out to take out Bate, then help Gibson get leverage on a roll up to win. Loved this. It also gives us another main event-level tag team based solely on the virtues of Gibson’s greatness. After the match, Wolfgang and the Coffeys attack Mustache Mountain. ***¾
