Trent Seven & Tyler Bate def. Saxon Huxley & Sam Gradwell
Huxley was the weak link again this week, mucking up spots in an otherwise fun match. Gradwell gives off a good tough guy image, and I bought him as a threat to the Mountain more than I did Huxley. The former tag champs were their typical, charming selves. Now let’s get them some stronger opponents and a real match. **¼
In the back, Travis Banks has been attacked. Johnny Saint wants to know who is responsible, but all signs point to the Coffey brothers. Seems Banks won’t be able to fight in the main event against Wolfgang. Mark Andrews rolls up and offers to take his buddy Banks’s spot in the main event.
Isla Dawn def. Nina Samuels
Dawn isn’t great and this wasn’t about Samuels and thus the whole thing was pretty bad. She gave selling a solid try, so there’s that at least. Luckily, Toni Storm will be back in two weeks so we can see some good women’s wrestling. *
Pete Dunne cuts a monotone promo, but what I love about it is that in listing all his conquests as champion, he only lists the guys he’s beaten on United Kingdom-branded shows. He’s ready for Danny Burch. I really liked their little non-title match from last year, and I’m stoked for this. It happens next week.
Jordan Devlin def. Tucker
I’ve been more into Tucker than any of the guys he’s jobbed to in WWE. This was alright, and while I get that Devlin is a heel, he still just comes off as bush league to me. **
Mark Andrews def. Wolfgang
I really hope they don’t habitually have Wolfgang headline every other show, because his main events have been much weaker than Noam Dar’s. Andrews did his flippy thing nicely if not mind-blowingly, as he does. After the match, the Coffey brothers attack Andrews. Flash Morgan Webster tries to save but gets beaten down. Wolfgang chases the Coffeys off but then he attacks Webster and joins the Coffeys. This is a good development, because they seem intent on pushing Wolfgang; better than they give him a couple other guys to cover up his shortcomings. **¾
Not an awesome episode, but they can’t all be bangers. Here’s hoping next week’s title match gets half the show’s run-time.
