Tegan Nox def. Zatara {First Round Match}
I was terrified watching this match because the word was already out that Nox had gotten injured during the tournament. It turns out that this wasn’t the match that happened in. Nox was good, but I’m actually much more interested in seeing more of the Tara after watching this. Solid way to start the tournament. **½
Rhea Ripley def. MJ Jenkins {First Round Match}
Aside from a little flurry, we didn’t get to see much of Jenkins here. It seems like Ripley is going to make a strong run through the tournament (I’m watching this without spoilers). She had a solid showing here but hopefully there’s more to her than what we got this match. **¼
Lacey Lane def. Vanessa Kraven
At 6’2”, Kraven is essentially a giant among the women. That said, she essentially sells like a giant, which is to say not at all. Also, Lane botched a move right off the bat. It was hard to really take this match seriously after those things.*½
Meiko Satomura def. Killer Kelly
Now Kelly, there’s a woman that knows how to sell. In a relatively short match, she got across now much fear, desperation, and pain she was going through in taking on the force of nature that was Satomura. At some point I’d like to see these two go at it again with 5-10 more minutes. This was a perfect first episode main event as it set an emotional and powerful tone without setting the bar unreasonably high for the rest of the tournament. ***
