November 22, 2017 – Houston, Texas
Finally, an episode where the pre-show, post-Takeover matches are bouts that have a little build and really feel like they could have been on Takeover had something gone wrong with one of the bouts that was on the main show.
Ruby Riott def. Sonya Deville
The night before, Riott, Liv Morgan, and Sarah Logan made their debut on Smackdown Live, beating up Naomi and Smackdown Women’s Champ Charlotte Flair. Interesting that they didn’t do the Riott Squad in NXT at all. I guess that makes this Riott’s last NXT match. Deville debuted on Raw two days before this, joining Paige alongside Mandy Rose, beating up Mickey James and Raw Women’s Champ Alexa Bliss. Interesting that they didn’t do Absolution in NXT at all. I guess that makes this Deville’ last NXT match. Did they deliberately have them debut on separate brands in basically the exact same way on back to back days? This match was pretty solid, with great selling from Riott and a story that got the crowd engaged. Deville doesn’t seem to know the rules of wrestling, and the finish came out of nowhere, but that aside everything was fine. **¾
Drew McIntyre got legitimately injured in his match with Andrade Cien Almas. I wonder if Almas was set to win the title or if they called an audible,
Pete Dunne def. Johnny Gargano {WWE United Kingdom Championship Match}
Wow, they really brought the goods at the end there. Dunne spit his mouthguard out so that he could bite Gargano’s hand and escape the GargaNo Escape. Then Gargano got a little cocky, assuming that Dunne was vulnerable without the mouthguard protecting him and getting his ass handed to him as a result. Great stuff. ***¾
