September 14, 2016 – Winter Park, Florida
Samoa Joe kicks off the show. He says he was a disgrace as champion. He’s not sorry for the friendships he ruined by running over everyone on his way to the title, because he wanted to be NXT Champion that much. But he does want to say something to Shinsuke Nakamura’s face. Nakamura comes out and Joe tells him that he believed it when he said that Nakamura was an undeserving contender. But now he knows he was deserving and that he’s a worthy champion. And he wants his rematch as soon as he’s cleared to wrestle again. Nakamura’s down with that and they shake on it. Then, when Nakamura’s guard is down, Joe attacks him on the ramp and slams him onto the steel steps. Nakamura is taken out on a stretcher.
Liv Morgan def. Rachel Fazio
Fazio is Paul Ellering’s daughter, jobbing again under a new name. Morgan looked totally lost out there. At least it was a short squash. After the match, Morgan challenges Asuka. N/A
Hideo Itami def. Drew Gulak
It’s wild to me that Gulak and Lorcan, two CZW guys, are in WWE now. Didn’t think that indy would ever produce WWE guys. At least they went with the strong style guys instead of the hardcore dudes. These two hit each other pretty hard for a minute, but then things got kind of boring. Let’s just put the Austin Aries feud into gear because both guys need something more interesting to do right now. **
Akam & Rezar def. Doug Sessa & Chris Payne
I don’t review squashes. N/A
Bobby Roode def. No Way Jose
The brilliant set up for this match was Roode walking through Jose’s backstage promo and telling him he had a nice head. Pulitzer-worthy stuff there, folks. This was alright, but the shuffling of midcard wrestlers from Takeover: Brooklyn II to the following TV tapings has felt mostly flat. NXT needs to get out of this holding pattern. **¾
