Samoa Joe def. Rhyno
Rhyno looked fat and blown up here. What the hell was this all about, anyway? This felt like WWE dumping its trash on NXT. *½
During the Raw and Smackdown draft, NXT talents are getting poached from NXT. Raw grabs Finn Balor and Nia Jax. Smackdown gets American Alpha, Alexa Bliss, Carmella, and Mojo Rawley.
Akam & Rezar def. Jason Jordan & Chad Gable
The last segment lets us know this is American Alpha’s farewell match. The Authors of Pain attack during AA’s entrance. That could have been a way to write them off the show, but they tough it out and have the match. I guess we weren’t meant to know the Authors’ names yet. American Alpha controlled a lot more of this than I expected, and what’s to like about watching giant dudes get suplexed all over the place? ***¼
Hideo Itami is coming back in two weeks. Is it a coincidence that he gets to come back just as Finn Balor has left? I think it isn’t.
Austin Aries def. Patrick Clark
Clark will later be Velveteen Dream. Here he gets squashed, and I don’t review those. No Way Jose attacks Aries after the match. N/A
Bayley def. Nia Jax
Jax has new gear without the Nappa panels. They didn’t announce it earlier for storyline reasons, but this is also Bayley’s last match on the weekly show. The entire women’s division just got totally fucking gutted by the main roster. While it was nice to see Jax really channeling a monster wrestler character, most of this match was pretty boring. Once Bayley started coming back near the end it started picking up a bit, and it featured a Jaxhammer and an avalanche Bayley to Belly, so all in all it’s about as good as their match from London, but not as good as their match a few weeks ago. ***
