June 29, 2016 – Winter Park, Florida
The show starts with the announcement that Finn Balor vs. Shinsuke Nakamura will happen in two weeks. They announced a TV match four weeks out?! That’s nuts. They have interviews with the two throughout the show, and I’m frankly surprised at Nakamura’s english. It’s a lot better than I thought it’d be. And he has such a fun personality.
Alexa Bliss def. Carmella
No mic work from Carmella this week. I feel like with a better opponent, both of these ladies were at a point where they could be led to a really good match. Against each other though, it was a good effort that didn’t get very far. I do love the 5-foot Bliss’s choke takedown though. I do not like Tom Phillips giving the Bliss Flip and the Sparkle Splash new, boring, heel names. Speaking of better opponents, Bliss challenges Bayley later in the show. **½
Andrade Cien Almas def. Noah Potjes
Are they going to change Potjes’s name every time he wrestles? Noah Kekoa is a way better name than Noah Potjes. This was boring. *
Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa def. Zack Ryder & Mojo Rawley
Well, I was feeling tempted to say that a match like this is probably the ceiling for the Hype Bros, but it actually made me think that the Hype Bros are capable of more if Rawley can continue to focus on being a powerhouse instead of being an attention-seeking bother. The second half of this match was balls-to-the-wall fun. ***¼
After the match, Gargano says that since he and Ciampa beat the new champions a few weeks ago, they’re in line for a title shot. American Alpha comes out and assert that the title shot belongs to them first. The Revival comes out and Dash Wilder cracks me up with his dad jokes. The champs don’t seem too keen on defending the belts against either challenging pair. William Regal comes out and says that Ciampa & Gargano will get a title shot soon, but first American Alpha will challenge for the titles against the Revival next week in a 2/3 Falls Match. The Authors of Pain run out and attack both teams.
