Jason Jordan & Chad Gable def. Wesley Blake & Buddy Murphy
This had a few issues, like it being remarkably silly early on and an awkward repeated spot near the end. But it told a great story of Gable & Jordan being so dominant that Murphy had to fake an injury to gain control, and the use of Alexa Bliss as a weapon was really well done. I’ll split the difference. ***¼
Nia Jax def. Liz Morgan
I think we’re meant to interpret from this match that Jax is still having breathing issues after Bayley choked her out, but Jax sucks at selling so that wasn’t conveyed well. I don’t review squashes, but I have to say this was a bad one. N/A
Alex Riley def. Bull Dempsey
Dumb little heatless squash for Riley. This is a return nobody needed or asked for. Later on, Riley says he’s resentful that Sami Zayn’s return was hyped while nobody cared that Riley himself was medically cleared for a while. N/A
Elias Samson def. John Skyler
Another heatless squash. Looks like the Full Sail fans have had enough of squashes as a development tool too. N/A
Sami Zayn & Samoa Joe def. Baron Corbin {Triple Thread Number One Contender’s Match}
Zayn is coming off being in the Royal Rumble. There was a commercial break about one-third of the way into the match, and everything before that was pretty bad. But everything after it was hard-hitting and dramatic. Zayn, in particular, is incredible at selling strikes. The match ends with Zayn puts Corbin in a Sharpshooter and Joe adds on a crossface and Corbin taps. After some arguing about whether Joe or Zayn gets the win, William Regal says he’ll have to review the tape before he can make a decision. Nice cliffhanger. ***½
