This isn’t actually an episode of NXT. NXT 311 was a recap show the night before Takeover: London. But that same night the NXT roster put on a house show in Wales and the main event of said show was added to the WWE Networks Hidden Gems archive the night before NXT UK Takeover: Cardiff. So here’s a review!
December 15, 2015 – Cardiff, Wales
Finn Balor def. Samoa Joe & Sami Zayn {NXT Championship Triple Threat Match}
This is pretty interesting because throughout the rest of the tour, Balor had been defending against Zayn & Baron Corbin. Joe getting the spot here is kind of odd because he was getting the title shot on the big show the next day, but I guess they felt that Corbin and Apollo Crews needed to practice their match before Takeover (Joe had been wrestling Crews during the tour). Okay so this match, it was a lot of Joe being a jerk by stalling, being patronizing, and attacking from behind. You had Zayn and Balor then teaming up to keep him from being so jerky. That’s all fine with me; typical house show fun. What’s less fine with me is how nauseating the jittery hand-cam footage is. I also didn’t care for the big chunk of time spent on Balor and Zayn trying on each other’s ring jackets and doing each other’s poses. Joe became a big babyface with me for putting an end to that. Things started picking up a bit in the second half of the match, but ended when Joe put Zayn in the Coquina Clutch only for Balor to jump on the pile with the Coup De Gras and pin Zayn for the win. Nothing special here, but a fine waste of time if you’re an NXT completist. ***
