NXT 282

June 10, 2015 – Winter Park, Florida

Zack Ryder & Mojo Riley def. Elias Samson & Mike Rallis
There are six matches on this hour of TV, so I’m not expecting anything from any of them. Ryder is doing very little to make me hate Rawley less. Ryder has a nice missile dropkick and Samson has a nice European uppercut and that’s about all I took away from this. *

Emma def. Blue Pants
Pants is the most over babyface on the roster. It’s insane. She got a nice hope spot near the end, but otherwise this was pretty dull. I’ve realized that my issue with Emma is that it looks like she’s thinking very hard about how to maneuver herself in the ring, which makes it hard for me to suspend my disbelief for her matches. This has been more of an issue since her return to NXT. ¾*

Tyler Breeze def. Bull Dempsey
I kind of loved this. It was pretty short and was mostly Dempsey dominating, but then Breeze made Dempsey chase him around the ring until he caught a side stitch. Then Tyler easily hit the Beauty Shot for the win. Dempsey hasn’t won a match in over 6 months and he has a funny backstage segment with William Regal where he tries to deflect issues with his fitness, so this is probably leading to a refresh for him. **

Becky Lynch def. Jessie McKay
The big entrance, trench coat, orange hair, and goggles really make Lynch feel like a big deal. McKay will go on to be Billie Kay. She did alright, but looked kind of apprehensive and green going down the stretch. The new slam that Lynch is using to transition into her armbar finish is too contrived too. That said, this was alright. **

Baron Corbin def. Angelo Dawkins
The crowd is beginning to turn on Corbin, as half the crowd is fighting back chants for him with chants of, “Corbin sucks.” And they’re right, because even when he tries to be interesting, like doing a fake-out slide out of the ring, he follows up with a very delayed, boring punch. This guy has no sense of how to engage with the fans. What’s most annoying is that the commentators say things like, “Corbin is unstoppable,” and, “Who is going to stop Corbin.” Every time he’s had a big match against someone who isn’t a scrub, he’s been pinned, so what the hell are they talking about? I don’t review squashes. N/A

Samoa Joe def. Scott Dawson
Joe’s first entrance song sucked a big one. What the hell were they thinking with this? I don’t review squashes, but Joe looked good here until the intro to his music kicked in after the win. After the match, Joe calls Kevin Owens a coward. Owens says that Joe hasn’t earned an NXT title match after just one match, which is just delicious for him to say. Regal comes out and makes a non title match between the two for next week. Owens seems frustrated, as his schedule now has this match and a PPV match with John Cena before his title defense in Japan against Finn Balor. N/A

I’m going to eat my words, because this show was actually pretty good despite featuring only short matches. Feels like we’re back on track!
