June 3, 2015 – Winter Park, Florida
Tyler Breeze def. Adam Rose
The crowd picks up on the Rosebud-less Rose’s demeanor and chants for Leo Kruger. Please god no. Rose controlled so much of this match before Breeze hit the Beauty Shot to win it. And it just went on and on forever. The last couple of minutes were fun, but holy crap do I not need singles matches of this length featuring Rose. **½
Eva Marie gets interviewed on the ramp and gets booed like crazy. She rightly says that the women stole the show at Takeover, which is true, and then says that she wants to compete in NXT, which is pretty scary. Although, she’s so crazy over as a heel it could be interesting to see the crowd react to her in the ring.
William Regal announces that Finn Balor will get his title shot when the WWE goes to Tokyo Japan on July 4th for Beast in the East. That is neat.
Alexa Bliss def. Carmella
This was definitely the best of the three matches these two have had.Bliss is now 3-0 over Carmella, but had to grab the ropes to win this time. **
Aiden English & Simon Gotch def. Jason Jordan & Marcus Louis
Louis is Jordan’s perfect partner? There were a lot of chinlocks in this match. Like, more than were appropriate, and applied by the supposed babyfaces. Yuck. ½*
Finn Balor def. Rhyno
Of the three real matches Rhyno has had in NXT to date, this was the best one. Rhyno looked like a badass, Balor got the win and looks like a smartypants, and those of us watching never had to be bored. This was also a lot more interesting than watching Balor squash failed tag team division wrestlers. After the match, Rhyno gores Balor on the ramp. ***
That’s it for the episode, but throughout the week after Elimination Chamber, Kevin Owens wanted to rub in his win over John Cena by doing a series of open challenges for his title. Cena had been doing the same with the United States Championship. Here’s a few bonus match reviews for you from that.
June 4, 2016 – Houston Texas
Kevin Owens def. Zack Ryder {NXT Championship Match}
This was on SmackDown. This was also a squash. Ryder got basically nothing. N/A
June 8, 2016 – Lafayette, Louisiana
Kevin Owens def. Neville {NXT Championship Match}
This was on Raw. Neville wants to bring prestige back to the NXT title, and Cena would be happy to see him do it from his seat on commentary. This has the edge over their first match in NXT. Neville knew most of Owens’ tricks and had a counter for them, especially when Owens became distracted by his fixation on Cena. Other than that Owens continued to dominate Neville. The finish was great, with Neville three times going up top to attempt the Red Arrow, but that reliance on something Owens was familiar with being Neville’s undoing, just like in their slightly superior second NXT match. ***½
June 10, 2016 – Lafayette, Louisiana
Kevin Owens def. Heath Slater {NXT Championship Match}
This was on Main Event, and is the first time I’ve ever watched a match from that show, I believe. It was even shorter than the Ryder match, and Owens cut a promo 10x its length before it. N/A
