Kevin Owens comes out to Sami Zayn’s music wearing a John Cena United States Championship t-shirt. Owens will fight Cena in a few days at Elimination Chamber after attacking him twice on Raw. He also put Zayn on the shelf at Takeover. The crowd is on Owens’ side over Cena, so to make sure the crowd still hates him, Owens tells them that he just gave them Zayn’s entrance music for the last time. William Regal comes out to lament the list of wrestlers that Owens has put out of action: Zayn (legit), Alex Riley (legit), Adrian Neville (dubious, they showed post-Owens matches that Neville had on this show), and Hideo Itami, which Owens denies. Solomon Crowe then comes out to stick up for Zayn. He’s got a really nebulous gimmick right now. They’ll fight in the main event. Did we really need Regal for this?
I didn’t really mention this in my Takeover review, but Hideo Itami was injured in the parking lot before the show. Itami says he didn’t see who attacked him. He had surgery and will be out for a while (forever, basically) and when he comes back there will be no stopping him. Owens is heavily implicated in the video of the attack fallout. And while Owens denied it earlier, he also based his entire promo on this show around Itami calling him a bad person, so we’ll just have to see about that.
Emma def. Bayley
This was alright. Emma is basically sleepwalking out there, which is a real bummer because the crowd is ready to embrace her as a heel. After the match, Charlotte tries to save Bayley from an Emma/Dana Brooke beatdown but gets beaten down as well. **
Rhyno wants to have another match with Baron Corbin because he liked fighting him at Takeover. No joke, I’ve never seen anything as sexual on a wrestling show as Rhyno’s whole shtick was here. This might be more of a love story than a wrestling angle.
Wesley Blake & Buddy Murphy def. Mike Rallis & Elias Samson
One day I hope that Blake finds a hairstyle that fills the hole in his soul. I don’t review squash matches but I’d watch a Samson vs. Murphy match based solely on Samson’s one hope spot. After the match, Alexa Bliss (who is now officially with Blake & Murphy) hits Samson with a Sparkle Splash. N/A
Finn Balor def. Tye Dillinger
Looks like Dillinger is Balor’s designated jobber now. Dillinger got to put on a rest hold at one point, at least. Did Balor need an enhancement match after becoming number one contender? I feel like engaging with the champ is a better look for him. N/A
In the gym, Chad Gable tries to become Jason Jordan’s tag team partner, but Jordan already has someone else in mind. The Hype Bros also got together on this show, so it’s batting .500.
Kevin Owens def. Solomon Crowe
Crowe got basically nothing here, getting dominated for 6 minutes. You know what we do when that happens. After the match, Joe saves Crowe from an apron powerbomb, and Owens bails rather than fight the big guy. N/A
