November 20, 2014 – Winter Park, Florida
Becky Lynch def. Bayley
The match was too short to matter and the finish was bad (and had to be explained away by the commentators because it was poorly executed). Charlotte makes the save for Bayley after the match. ¾*
Simon Gotch & Aiden English def. Mini Sin Cara & Mini Kalisto
You know the Vaudevillains aren’t over because the Full Sail crowd will mimic anything, but not Gotch and English’s entrance intro. The Vaudevillains bring out little versions of the Lucha Dragons, and the commentators make a half a dozen little person jokes before calling it insulting. You can go all in on being lowbrow, or you can call out the gimmick for being trashy and offensive, but you can’t have it both ways. Renee Young needs to decide if she’s a face or heel commentator because here she sounded like a jerk who forgot she’s supposed to root for the good guys when people who were easy to make fun of showed up. I don’t review squash matches. N/A
Kevin Steen arrives on December 11, 2014. Neat!
Baron Corbin def. Elias Samson
I have a sneaking suspicion that Corbin, whose gimmick is more or less that he’s a biker, doesn’t know how to ride a motorcycle. I guess Samson is Corbin’s designated jobber, and he’s down in 22 seconds. N/A
Bull Dempsey def. Steve Cutler
Dempsey and Corbin crossed paths during Corbin’s exit, so you know they’re about to feud. Dempsey’s jobber not getting an entrance is a bit of a kayfabe breaking moment. Like, where did he even come from, the crowd? This doesn’t work. The crowd rips Dempsey when it takes him longer than 22 seconds to win. We didn’t even learn Cutler’s name until right before he was pinned. Alex Riley says the quiet part out loud and actually calls this a squash (by name) on commentary. N/A
CJ Parker def. Tyson Kidd
The one anti-environmentalism anti-Parker thing the commentators say that I agree with: natural deodorant is indeed a problem. Kidd challenges Finn Balor for a match next week, so clearly Hideo Itami is a Justin Gabriel-esque sidekick. *
Enzo Amore & Colin Cassady def. Dash Wilder & Scott Dawson
Just another squash in this brutally disappointing follow up to last week. After the match, the Ascension runs out to beat up all four guys. They’re still mad at Itami and Balor. At least someone still cares about Itami. N/A
Sami Zayn comes to the ring and immediately asks Adrian Neville to join him. Zayn tells Neville that he doesn’t owe him a title shot, but he’d like to ask for one anyway. He knows that everyone, including Neville, says that he can’t win the big one, and if that’s true then he’s going to leave NXT. Neville, who came out with a limp, says he can have a rematch any time, but he doesn’t have to put so much on the line to prove himself. Zayn flips out a little and says the proof is in who the champion is, and if he can’t win the title then there’s no point in staying in NXT. William Regal comes out to agree with Neville that Zayn is worthy, and the match will happen at Takeover R Evolution (our evolution, eyeroll). Neville doesn’t want Zayn to put his career on the line. Zayn says he’ll quit if he loses whether it’s an official stipulation or not. I guess they’re going with Neville actually being hurt, though I think that could change. This angle is too good and the rest of this episode didn’t deserve it.
