Sami Zayn def. Tyler Breeze
This was on par with their Takeover match, which is to say it was quite good. Breeze has become an amazing gatekeeper. His smarmy expressions are incredible. The Helluva Kick has become a bit of a fluke finishing move, and I think when Zayn goes for the title he’s going to need to perform from a stronger position. ***½
Tyson Kidd def. Dash Wilder
This feels like a descent into the NXT midcard for Kidd, which is unfortunate because there’s an excellent story to be told with him. He can’t get another title shot as long as Adrian Neville is champion, so what he should be doing is coaching a reluctant Zayn to win the belt. There are all sorts of light side/dark side situations to be played out. But they’re not going to do any of that. Instead they’re just going to give Kidd a few more wins before he goes on his way. This was actually pretty solid. **¼
Marcus Louis is turning into a red-light psycho. There’s pretty much no way this gets over.
Sasha Banks & Becky Lynch def. Bayley & Charlotte
Wow, this was dope. They told an awesome story in which Banks drove Charlotte crazy by avoiding her and Bayley being unable to hold up her own end of the team despite Charlotte’s coaching. Great stuff. ***½
William Regal is impressed with Zayn, so he’ll get a title shot against Neville next week.
The Ascension come out to the ring to find out what Hideo Itami has in store for them. Itami comes out to introduce Finn Balor. The crowd is silent until they see that Balor is Prince Devitt, and then they freak the fuck out. Thankfully, the crowd chants, “Dream Team.” instead of just for Balor, and it’s definitely cool that he’s in NXT, but holy shit did this whole angle cuck Itami out.
