October 2, 2014 – Winter Park, Florida
Two big title rematches on this show, so there’s the potential for it to be the best episode yet.
Charlotte def. Bayley [NXT Women’s Championship Match]
Bayley’s got her big match gear on. This was notable for the debut of the Figure 8 Leglock, and a pretty dope finish. Sadly, without the crazy heat the crowd gave them at Takeover, this didn’t have the flow or fire of their previous match. Also, Charlotte’s selling was really goofy early on. Charlotte gives Bayley a hug after the match, which is a really nice capper to this story. ***½
Hideo Itami nc. Viktor
The match never happens because the Ascension just beat Itami up before it can begin. Again, nobody makes the save. So 40% of the time, Itami has been made to look friendless and weak. N/A
At the WWE Performance Center, Enzo Amore sexually harasses Carmella while teaching her out to wrestle, so she dropkicks him out of the ring. That bit was so prescient and such a metaphor for the end of Enzo’s career that I about shit myself.
Baron Corbin def. Troy McClain
I don’t review squashes. N/A
Aiden English & Simon Gotch def. Jason Jordan & Tye Dillinger
This was fine, just fine. **¼
“Japanese Jerry Lawler” Sho Funaki tells KENTA that he has his back when it comes to the Ascension. Meanwhile, Sasha Banks attacks Bayley and says she can do better. Well, you’ve lost 5 times to Bayley so the booking would suggest otherwise.
Adrian Neville def. Tyson Kidd [NXT Championship Match]
Titus O’Neil is in the front row, which feels like a rehash of the Neville/Breeze/Kidd situation. Luckily, they went a different way and did it the way an overbooked TV finish should be. Neville got knocked to the floor where O’Neil hit him with a clothesline from his seat. Sami Zayn then ran out to knock out O’Neil and cheer on Neville to get back in the ring before the countout. And then Neville finished off Kidd. This was the best TV title match in a minute, and the best thing out of Kidd since his injury ***¾
