July 31, 2013 – Winter Park, Florida
The show starts with Enzo Amore and Colin Cassidy being beaten and embarrassed by Mason Ryan and Tons of Funk. I had totally missed the Sweet T portion of Matt Bloom’s career. I mean, I wouldn’t say I missed it, but I didn’t know that it happened.
A lot of the good will from the week before is flushed away when it’s decided that Emma and Summer Rae will figure out who is number one contender by having a dance battle.
Charlotte def. Sasha Banks
Yeah, this was good. Charlotte is a freak in the ring. There’s no reason she should be this good. And don’t give me any of that, “she’s a Flair,” nonsense because David was awful. Banks has a few years under her belt, but she’s damn good too. ***
Luke Harper & Erick Rowan def. Aiden English & Mickey Keegan
I like that Keegan never changed his twitter handle from Axl to Mickey. Suddenly the Wyatt Family is over with like half of the crowd, which I guess is good timing because they announce that they’re leaving NXT. I think this is the closest thing we’ve gotten to a graduation ceremony in NXT and I actually wish they’d do more of it rather than just having guys disappear without any word. I don’t review squashes. N/A
Corey Graves def. Scott Dawson
Dawson’s role as JTTS already wearing thin. Dude is solid but what’s the benefit of having one guy that puts in a good showing but you know is going to lose? After the match, the WWE Tag Team Champions (and United States Champion) the Shield come out to remind Graves that they beat the crap out of him last time they were around. Dean Ambrose calls Adrian Neville a thief for taking Kassius Ohno’s number one contender spot without earning it, and that’s an injustice. That is amazing attention to detail. Ambrose wants to fight Neville, so Neville agrees if Ambrose puts the US title on the line. The match wasn’t much, but the drama after was fantastic.*¾
Leo Kruger & Antonio Cesaro def. Bo Dallas & Sami Zayn
Kruger weighed this thing down, but he’s just one man in four here. The crowd was stoked to crap on Dallas, and Zayn and Cesaro seemed stoked to beat each other up. The finish, which did include Kruger, was pretty great too. Hopefully that’s a sign that their title match won’t be garbage. ***
