Paige def. Sasha Banks
Wow, I guess Banks was pretty good right off the bat. Banks screwed herself when she tried to play by Paige’s unorthodox rules, but she really held her own before blowing it. **¾
Kassius Ohno and Leo Kruger have officially teamed up. They take credit for putting Trent Barreta, Richie Steamboat, and Tyson Kidd on the shelf. Again, Steamboat was last seen defeating Ohno and nobody has said anything about a subsequent injury. Ohno and Kruger threaten to beat up William Regal if he gets in their way.
Erick Rowan def. Oliver Grey
Just another boring squash. Luke Harper is nowhere to be found, making it seem like Rowan is replacing Harper as Bray Wyatt’s disciple. I know that isn’t the case, but it’s another example of how NXT didn’t know how to effectively tell a story in 2012. ¼*
Dusty Rhodes comes out to say that the bounty on Big E Langston’s head is void. I’m not sure how he can stop Vicky Guerrero from just giving $5,000 to whoever can injure Langston. Another storyline development that doesn’t make sense. Camacho comes out and says as much, saying he needs the money to bring Hunico back from Mexico. Langston comes out and Dusty books them in a handicap match against each other (Camacho gets the partner). No explanation for it being a handicap match (within the context of this segment) is given.
Big Show, who I guess was the Smackdown Champion at the time, noticed Dallas’ weird open challenge last week and he’s coming to make good on it next week.
Seth Rollins def. Jinder Mahal [NXT Championship Match]
Mahal now comes out to his 3 Man Band music, but Rollins is still using his NXT entrance and ignoring the Shield connection. The incongruity is blood boiling. I believe this match has the distinction of getting the first “this is awesome” chant from the Full Sail crowd. They were going for an epic feel, didn’t achieve it, but managed to have a long and worthy main event without it ever getting boring. That’s worth something. After the match Corey Graves claps for Rollins in the crowd. ***¼
