Antonio Cesaro def. Michael McGillicutty
This was quite a bit better than your typical NXT TV opener. I could have done with a little less waistlock, but it’s a small complaint. ***
Bo Dallas def. Axl Keegan
I don’t know if I’m on board with Dallas as a masochist, or whatever weirdness they’re trying with him now. He issues an open challenge for a fight, not a match. That doesn’t really mean anything, and neither did this match he just had. *½
Corey Graves def. Yoshi Tatsu
Did Tatsu actually do something to upset WWE so much that he got bumped down to NXT jobber status? Or was it just punishment for being Asian before that became acceptable in 2015? *
Roman Reigns def. Gavin Reid
Reigns isn’t acknowledging that he’s in the Shield, and neither are the commentators. Was this a drawback of taping NXT too far in advance? Or was NXT just not being treated as a thing? Probably both. Boring squash here. ½*
There’s a backstage promo in which Tyson Kidd says he’ll go through Leo Kruger to be a contender for the NXT Championship (nobody has said this is a contender’s match). Then Kassius Ohno pops up and says he’s farther ahead in line for the title because he put Richie Steamboat on the shelf. Ummm, when did that happen? It certainly didn’t happen on TV, and has never been mentioned on TV. Last we saw Steamboat on TV he was beating Ohno. Get your shit together, NXT!
Tyson Kidd def. Leo Kruger
Jim Ross has joined the commentary team, but by the sounds of it he’s calling in by telephone. Let’s hear it for Tyson Kidd, who probably has the most consistently good matches in NXT and dragged Kruger to his best match yet. After the match Ohno attacks Kidd and Kruger helps with the beating. Nobody makes the save, so Regal leaves commentary and helps Kidd to the back ***¼
