Kassius Ohno def. Trent Barreta
As often as not, Ohno is death for this crowd. It’s not even like he’s doing anything wrong, but they just don’t care about him no matter what he does. I think it’s time for a babyface turn for this dude. In a welcome change of pace, Barreta avoids the post-match beatdown and comes out on top. **
Big E Langston def. Memo Montenegro
Even the jobbers in NXT are second generation (Montenegro is Dos Caras’s kid)! Now that Langston is a babyface (and actually quite over as a babyface), can we please get him a real opponent and a real match? After the match Vicky Guerrero puts a $5,000 bounty on Langston, but I’m not holding my breath that it results in a good match for Langston because they start things off with another jobber running out and getting destroyed. Luke Harper def. Jason Jordan
Jordan was scheduled to wrestle Aiden English but Bray Wyatt returned from injury and cut a rambling promo before English’s entrance. Jordan wants a fight so Wyatt obliges him with his first follower, Harper. This wasn’t much of anything, as the crowd (and commentators) have no sense of Harper’s relationship to Wyatt until after the match. *½
Roman Reigns cuts an arrogant, fancy bad guy promo. So now we know he’s a bad guy.
Jinder Mahal def. Bo Dallas, Justin Gabriel, & Drew McIntyre [Number 1 Contender Elimination Match]
This was sort of a tale of three matches. Everything leading up to the eliminations was exciting and fun. The eliminations then came quickly to Dallas’s shitty spear and felt haphazard. And then the home stretch pulled things together again. The crowd didn’t get behind Dallas as a babyface they wanted to see triumph over Mahal, so things didn’t work as well as they could have. ***¼
