Drew McIntyre def. Richie Steamboat
If you can’t call the finish of this match before it begins then you haven’t been watching wrestling very long. And indeed, Kassius Ohno comes out to distract the referee allowing McIntyre to hit Steamboat with his cast and hit his finisher for the win. Predictable finish and one botched spot aside, this was going along pretty damn well. **¾
Big E Langston def. Aiden English
I’m a man of my word, and I’m not dignifying this squash series until they put Langston into an actual feud. N/A
Michael McGillicutty cuts a promo in the ring and makes it official that he’s been named the number 1 contender for the title. Good, it’s about time. Seth Rollins tells McGillicutty that he talks to much, but the dude really never talks. Why do Rollins feuds revolve around things that factually aren’t true: this, and that Rick Victor was deserving of a match with the champion at all? The match is scheduled for next week and McGillicutty opts out of moving it to right now. This didn’t do much for me but given how much they’ve put into building McGillicutty I’m looking forward to the match either way.
Kassius Ohno def. Percy Watson
Steamboat attacks Ohno before the match but the refs break it up. I’ll be very happy if next week’s episode is just a rematch between these two and the title match. Watson took advantage of Ohno’s daze to make this competitive, but given that Ohno won anyway I’m not sure if this was an effective way to move the story forward. I’d be happy to be proven wrong. **
Conor O’Brian & Kenneth Cameron def. Tyson Kidd & Justin Gabriel
The Ascension is just too reliant on rest holds. A boring body scissors is like 80% of their offense. That makes the result here all the more disappointing, as Kidd and Gabriel are really gelling as a team and they’re actually fun to watch. **½
