July 4, 2012 – Winter Park, Florida
Sofia Cortez def. Paige
Paige’s overhand chops sucked, but this was an otherwise solid little match. Nice that they both got to show their stuff in such a short amount of time. Not so nice that the commentator who’s name I don’t know had a racist nickname for Cortez. **
Seth Rollins def. Camacho
This was actually pretty good. Camacho got to express his personality and Rollins got to really show off. And then Hunico comes in to help Camacho beat on Rollins and Bo Dallas, who I thought was going to be a heel, makes the save. **¾
Jake Carter & Corey Graves def. CJ Parker & Nick Rogers
So in the first three episodes of this show we’ve seen the children of Vader, Ricky Steamboat, Rikishi, Curt Hennig, Mike Rotundo, and kayfabe Kurt Angle. The N in NXT stands for nepotism. Parker did all the work for the jobber team, but unlike his partner two weeks ago, Rogers at least got to tag in. He got pinned the moment he tagged in, but still. This was fine. **
Kassius Ohno def. Mike Dalton
Speaking of Parker’s partner from two weeks ago, we’ll finally be able to see him actually wrestle. The crowd was more interested in calling out Ohno’s resemblance to Jesus. Dalton hit a leg lariat, so there’s that. Ohno’s stiff strikes looked good here. Calling out his own last name did not. *
Jinder Mahal def. Derrick Bateman
Mahal was on defense most of the match, so it was less dull than it probably should have been. They couldn’t get the crowd to care, though. *¾
Seth Rollins, Tyson Kidd & Bo Dallas def. Camacho, Hunico & Michael McGillicutty
Aside from the fact that this match ended with a running neckbreaker that looked weak as hell, this was pretty fun. It’s nice that there was an angle leading into it as well. Maybe we can get more storyline-driven storytelling going forward. ***
