January 11, 2012 – Laredo, Texas
The opening video no longer labels the NXT rookies as such, so I’m considering this the episode that ditched the seasonal format. Matt Striker starts the show by introducing NXT alum Alicia Fox. Well, she was a pro so that barely counts. She’s interrupted by Maxine and they have a match.
Alicia Fox def. Maxine
This was a tick better than Maxine’s usual garbage. *
Trent Barreta def. Tyler Reks
This was about on par with the singles matches in this feud so far. Yoshi Tatsu saves Barreta from a post-match beating. *¾
Justin Gabriel helps Derrick Bateman realize that Johnny Curtis got into his cell phone and sent the email to Teddy Long that ended his engagement with Maxine.
Jimmy Uso & Jey Uso def. Tyson Kidd & JTG
This was fine, just fine. If Jimmy had actually caught Kidd and hit the the Samoan Drop on the floor as was intended, this would get higher marks. **
Johnny Curtis def. Alex Riley
This was pretty much a squash, and I don’t review squashes. Bateman comes out after the match to tell Curtis that next week he’s putting an end to their feud. N/A
The show ends with another face off between Darren Young and Titus O’Neil. O’Neil calls out that Matt Striker has given up on the competition and that he doesn’t care about Redemption Points anymore. How come nobody ever complained that there was never a final vote? Young makes fun of O’Neil’s kids in an abysmal promo. Striker books a no disqualification match between the two for next week.
