Matt Striker starts the show by announcing that something big will happen on NXT 100 in a few weeks. He gets people hyped for it by bringing out NXT alum Justin Gabriel. Heath Slater comes out to run Gabriel down, so they have a match. The promo setting up the match was one of the worst I’ve ever heard.
Justin Gabriel def. Heath Slater
I really appreciate what they were going for here. They gave these guys a really solid chunk of time, and in return Gabriel and Slater put on a match that was worthy of it, even if it wasn’t particularly intense. It was engaging enough that the kids in the crowd were freaking out for Gabriel to pin Slater, and it’s hard to top that kind of enthusiasm. ***
Tyson Kidd def. Percy Watson
Kidd won clean last week, so I don’t get why we need a rematch. This match doesn’t have a clean finish, as Darren Young distracts Watson to give Kidd the win. Jesus. ¾*
Askana shows Maxine an email on Teddy Long’s phone wherein Derrick Bateman asked that she not be signed to Smackdown when he is. Maxine asks if Johnny Curtis put her up to it and she says no.
Derrick Bateman def. Johnny Curtis
They did this already, which is part of the reason the pacing of this lame feud has been so off. This started off strong and then hit a wall. That’s a shame. After the match, Maxine walks out on Bateman and kisses Curtis. *¾
