January 18, 2011 – Tulsa, Oklahoma
The show starts with the pros and rookies more or less playing the newlywed game. The commentators ripped this to shreds in season 3, and here they’re pretty unkind as well. The telepathy between Daniel Bryan and Derrick Bateman is fun, and the rest is a drag. Bateman clearly wins, and is immune from being eliminated tonight. Johnny Curtis’s amazement at Bateman and Bryan is funny, because the whole thing seems like a magic trick and nobody can figure out how they worked the game.
Chris Masters def. Byron Saxton
This is Masters’ revenge for getting a rookie on the same day that said rookie was eliminated. Neither of these guys has anything great to offer in the ring, so it’s no surprise that this was a drag. *½
Derrick Bateman & Daniel Bryan def. Brodus Clay & Ted DiBiase
This was a decent paint-by-numbers tag team match. It ended when Clay abandoned DiBiase, who’d been a jerk the whole match. **¼
Just as I’m wondering if they’re going to make every new guy on the main roster go through the humiliation of NXT, they show Mason Ryan debuting on Raw as a member of the New Nexus.
Ricardo Rodriguez def. Conor O’Brian
Rodriguez had used a trail of cheese to bait O’Brian into getting a face full of rat poison. Del Rio is making them settle their issue in the ring. After dominating the match, O’Brian exposes a turnbuckle but ends up eating it and losing. This was dumb. Del Rio is impressed with Rodriguez. Then O’Brian gets eliminated as the show closes. ¼*
