January 11, 2011 – Birmingham, Alabama
The show starts with a challenge: a complicated game of catch. Derrick Bateman wins. Josh Matthews calls this the worst/most boring segment in NXT. Todd Grisham confirms he’s including season 3 in that.
Conor O’Brian def. Byron Saxton
Saxton controlled most of this boring match, and then O’Brian hit his full nelson slam out of nowhere. It sucked. Ricardo Rodriguez hates O’Brian, so he’s bummed to announce him as the winner. *½
The show the backstage planning between Daniel Bryan and Bateman before their double date with the Bellas. On the date, the Bellas are only interested in Bryan, though Bateman gets a couple funny bits in. The Bellas start fighting and Nikki spills on Bateman’s American flag pants, causing him to spaz out. He still pays for Nikki’s drinks, but with a bag of change. This was shockingly kind of funny.
The next challenge is Superstar Password. It’s pretty much charades. Maryse is doing this shopping addict gimmick but the way she’s playing it is really one-dimensional and stupid and heat-killing. Bateman wins this challenge as well, and probably gets immunity next week because of it.
Johnny Curtis def. Ted DiBiase
I was actually kind of excited to watch this, but it was crazy boring. It got a little interesting when Brodus Clay interfered at the end, but gaga couldn’t save this from the abyss of things I’ll forget. *¾
