January 4, 2011 – Tucson, Arizona
The show starts with the announcement that the winner of NXT doesn’t get any championship shot at any PPV anymore. That’s good, since Wade Barrett’s came in a 6-man match and Kaval’s was for the Intercontinental title. Instead they’ll get a tag title shot with their pro.
Dolph Ziggler def. Chris Masters, Daniel Bryan, R-Truth, Ricardo Rodriguez & Ted DiBiase {Battle Royal}
Rodriguez is subbing in for Alberto Del Rio. For winning, Ziggler was allowed to trade his rookie, and he trades with Masters. This was a fine, short battle royal. **
Byron Saxton def. Jacob Novak
Novak wasn’t happy about being traded for Saxton, but he’s made to look like a goof here. This felt like it went on forever. *½
Derrick Bateman offers to help Daniel Bryan with his Bella Twin love triangle problem by going on a double date with them. I’m not watching Raw or Smackdown so I don’t know what this is about, but Bateman was already hilarious, even early on. Meanwhile, Ziggler more or less reveals he traded Novak away because he was worried about him and Vickie Guerrero. Saxton assures him he has no interest in Guerrero.
The next challenge is a trash talk-off, so to speak. Watching Bateman cringe at Saxton’s promo is the only good part about this thing. Conor O’Brian wins because wrestling fans are weird and like yo’ mama jokes.
Brodus Clay def. Johnny Curtis
This was all punches and nerve holds, but both guys have a lot of character and that went a long way in getting the crowd to care about it. **
Curtis has immunity from elimination because of all his challenge wins. Novak gets eliminated. Ziggler rubs it in Masters’ face, so Masters goes after him.
