July 27, 2010 – Corpus Christi, Texas
I’ve noticed that the first non-Matt Striker person (a pro or rookie) doesn’t speak on these episodes until at least five minutes into the show. It’s such a dry, boring start, and I can imagine the ratings drop-off in the first five minutes tended to be high on this show. There will be an elimination tonight. Striker tells the rookies to state a topic and then talk about it for one minute. You don’t need a stated topic for a one-minute promo, we’ll understand what’s happening. On second thought, some of the promos on this show are so dumb and rambling that maybe they do need a topic to stay on… topic. The promos are mostly terrible. More annoying than the bad promos is the commentators crapping on them. What was the point of this show? Why should I be watching this show featuring guys that you’re telling me are bad?
Percy Watson def. Zack Ryder
This was too short to be memorable, but Watson has a couple of fun moves in his cache and it’s a shame that he never developed into a better all around wrestler. ¾*
John Morrison tells Eli Cottonwood that he should always look forward and never look back… and then makes him watch tape of his failure in the obstacle course challenge last week. If this wasn’t deliberately bad then it’s the greatest collection of accidentally stupid segments in wrestling history.
Michael McGillicutty def. Eli Cottonwood
Cottonwood should not be allowed to wrestle. It’s hazardous to my attention span, and probably to the health of everyone physically involved in his matches. At least this was short. ½*
Husky Harris def. Kaval
This was pretty solid for a two-minute match. It ended when Harris took advantage of Kaval’s distraction when his pros got knocked off the apron, which would have been fine except that there was no force causing LayCool to fall off the apron and it looked real dumb. *¼
This week’s NXT Pole looks like this:
- Michael McGillicutty
- Kaval
- Alex Riley
- Percy Watson
- Lucky Cannon
- Husky Harris
- Eli Cottonwood
Cannon and Harris should have been swapped but also none of this means anything so who cares. Cottonwood is eliminated. He takes it badly and attacks a few rookies on his way out.
