May 11, 2010 – Buffalo, New York
The show starts with Michael Tarver getting eliminated because of his nonsensical statement last week that he himself be eliminated. Last night on Raw, all 8 rookies had a big tag match against a bunch of Raw wrestlers in which Bryan finally got the winning pin, but despite that he also gets eliminated because he pretty much said the same thing as Tarver. But then Matt Striker says that those two eliminations were made by WWE management, and one more elimination will happen because of the Pro’s Pole. Michael Cole is now suddenly coming around to Bryan now that he’s eliminated.
Wade Barrett def. Heath Slater
Logic would dictate that Barrett face Darren Young and David Otunga face Justin Gabriel (the latter is happening) after last week’s arguments. WWE hates logic. Barrett wins after a boring little match, despite Slater’s efforts. And then Chris Jericho’s music plays, even though Barrett won a challenge in which the prize was getting his own entrance music. This show doesn’t even follow its own rules. *
Skip Sheffield def. Darren Young
This was fine and served to be a match for the sake of the match, but it was still pretty vanilla. **
Daniel Bryan teases coming back as Bryan Danielson and kicking ass, but this is NXT so that never goes anywhere.
David Otunga def. Justin Gabriel
Like the last match, we’re finally getting wrestling for the sake of it here, and both guys put in a solid performance. **½
The show wraps up with the new Pro’s Pole
- Wade Barrett
- David Otunga
- Justin Gabriel
- Heath Slater
- Darren Young
- Skip Sheffield
So Sheffield is eliminated as well. I’m curious how they’re going to do a weekly show with only five wrestlers.
