March 2, 2010 – Wichita, Kansas
Darren Young def. David Otunga
We’re two episodes in and already have 50/50 booking. This all just existed to get the pros involved and get Otunga mad at R-Truth at the finish. Good thing we were treated to a match full of chinlocks leading up to it. Otunga and R-Truth brawl in the back after the match. ½*
Wade Barrett def. Daniel Bryan
Michael Cole’s heel turn was pretty much zero to 60 right off the bat in NXT. Cole was always kind of a geek and I remember feeling like he was really unsuited for the heel role they shoved him into. Bryan was still injured after a dive in his match last week, so Barrett is able to beat him in a couple minutes. Bryan hit a cool knee off the apron at one point, so that was nice. Chris Jericho beats on Bryan after the match. *
Justin Gabriel & Matt Hardy def. Skip Sheffield & William Regal
Cole says that Regal and Sheffield don’t get along. If I thought for one second that the writers already knew that they were going to put the rookies into the Nexus, I’d be really impressed because in every segment tonight there’s been a rookie who didn’t like their mentor. But I don’t, so the whole show feels lazily written. This match was passable, and Regal got pinned after yelling at Sheffield for being too goofy. We’re supposed to glean from this I guess that being serious is a bad thing. **
In the back, Carlito spits apple in Heath Slater’s face in front of all the other rookies I guess because Slater beat him last week? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
