February 23, 2010 – Milwaukee, Wisconsin
The Miz opens this inaugural by sniping at his rookie Daniel Bryan. More interesting than Miz mispronouncing the word “desert” is a pre-Ryback Skip Sheffield dressed as a cowboy. Then Bryan comes out and craps on the Miz in a promo. Miz comes out and is pissed and the whole thing is way too meta for two guys who can’t do meta. I’m also realizing that years Shayna Baszler tried to steal Bryan’s first catchphrase.
Christian & Heath Slater def. Carlito & Michael Tarver
Nothing wrong with this. Tarver was a disaster but he was barely in the match. Everyone else did their job and the match told a perfectly logical story. **¼
David Otunga def. Darren Young
This show was so poorly constructed it was laughable. Here you have CM Punk saying he doesn’t know why he’s in NXT mentoring Young. R-Truth feels like more of a hype man for Otunga than a mentor. Oh, I don’t review squashes. You should know this about me. N/A
Chris Jericho def. Daniel Bryan
Jericho was World Heavyweight Champion at the time and Wade Barrett was his rookie. In a YouTube react video, Bryan said that he deliberately got a bad haircut for this show because he thought part of it would be Mix making him get a better one, and better gear, etc. Meanwhile, Barrett is interviewed at ringside by Matt Striker, who is antagonistic to him just as he was to Bryan earlier, and just as Michael Cole has been to them on commentary. What was supposed to be appealing to viewers about the way these guys who weren’t active wrestlers at the time crapped on exciting new talent? People were really excited about this match when it happened, but it was kind of sloppy by the standards of the guys involved. Jericho gave Bryan a lot considering his position though, so that’s cool. Miz beats up Bryan after the match. ***
