CM Punk def. The Miz
Punk called this match very loudly, but that’s really the only fault I could find with this match because Miz actually looked competent in the ring for once. That coupled with the crowd being really hot for Punk made this a fun little time at the matches. This was longer and more interesting than their PPV match, and probably served as a sign that Miz could be counted on to hold his own if need be. Punk won with the GTS after about fifteen minutes. ***
Tommy Dreamer encourages Colin Delaney to ask for an ECW contract. Armando Estrada books them in a match against each other, and if Dreamer loses he’s out of ECW. Then, Chavo Guerrero (who is suddenly flanked by Zack Ryder and Curt Hawkins) signs his Backlash contract for a match against Kane. Kane signs too. Then Guerrero introduces his new muscle, some big bald guy in a suit. All four guys beat up Kane.
Elijah Burke def. Nunzio
Burke hit a crazy German suplex on Nunzio in this match. Aside from that nothing here was interesting. I assume they were trying to reheat Burke here, but next week he would be in his last match ever on this show. *½
Kofi Kingston def. Domino
This was boring. When I said they’d done enough Kingston squashes, I didn’t mean he should be giving up offense to guys like Domino. Kingston won after four minutes with the usual. On the bright side, they’d already renamed the Jamaican Buzzsaw to Trouble in Paradise. *
They showed some grumpiness between Layla and Eve Torres, wherein Layla shoehorned in the information that her boobs are real. Kelly Kelly says that Torres had a message for the two of them, but we never hear what it is.
Tommy Dreamer def. Colin Delaney
Dreamer looked like a doofus here for taking five times longer to put Delaney away than everyone else in the company. At ringside, Estrada kept reminding Dreamer not to take it easy on Delaney, so Dreamer shouted back that he wasn’t. The commentators tried to suggest that Dreamer was taking it easy, but ultimately that doesn’t make sense because if Dreamer is going to beat him anyway, why draw it out? Anyway, this wasn’t bad at all but the storyline was dumb, especially since Delaney keeps sticking around without a contract. **
