August 28, 2007 – Albany, New York
John Morrison starts the show by bragging about his win at SummerSlam. He reveals that Armando Estrada has booked a four-way number one contender main event. Morrison is shown the competitors on the big screen. He’s unfazed by Boogeyman, the Miz, and Big Daddy V. CM Punk is shown and Morrison thinks he’s had more than enough opportunities at the title. Punk wins as many championships as he does drugs.
Kevin Thorn def. Stevie Richards
Thorn was still largely useless, and sadly the ending was about as uninteresting an end as I can think of with Thorn going over clean after only a bit of a comeback from Richards. It wasn’t as bad as the usual Thorn squashes they’ve had, but it was very disappointing given how much time they’d spent on this feud. **
Balls Mahoney approaches Extreme Expose and the Miz. Everyone is mean to Mahoney except for Kelly Kelly, who wishes him luck. It’s also suggested that the Miz has booked Mahoney’s match tonight, which makes no sense. Meanwhile, Estrada wants Morrison to be comfortable backstage. Punk crashes the party and psychs out the champ.
Elijah Burke def. Balls Mahoney
Miz and the ladies watched this from ringside. Because of that, all of the focus was on the angle and little of it was on the action. It’s a bummer, because we’ve seen these two have a surprisingly watchable match, and this wasn’t any kind of interesting follow up. Mahoney losing clean was a drag, too. Miz rips on Mahoney after the match, but Kelly stays behind to check on her crush. **
CM Punk def. The Miz, The Boogeyman, and Big Daddy V {Number One Contender Fatal Four Way Match}
I didn’t expect Punk to carry the weight of two garbage wrestlers here. I also didn’t expect him to the get best out of V. That said, they kept this pretty basic and didn’t let it overstay its welcome, so it was a serviceable main event given the wrestlers involved (Boogeyman was really not involved, having been taken out early and never returning). Punk pinned Miz to win. **¼
