The Boogeyman def. Jesse Guilmette
This was a nothing squash, used to show off Boogeyman’s new contact lenses. After the match, Matt Striker comes out to complain about the dirty worms. Then Big Daddy V beats up Boogeyman. It’s hard for the crowd to alert Boogeyman of the very slow V approaching him when he’s totally heatless. N/A
Elijah Burke def. Tommy Dreamer
I thought that since these guys were in the main event last week that they’d treat this like it mattered at all. I was wrong; it was just another Originals vs. New Breed nothing match that Burke won because CM Punk is clearly winning the title and will need a challenger. **
The Miz def. Balls Mahoney
Miz cut the same promo here as he did last week, and he wrestled the same guy. Things are supposed to change from week to week. I guess this time around Miz didn’t embarrass himself as badly in the ring. We also got Kelly Kelly showing some sympathy to Mahoney, which is an ECW deep cut from way back in the Mike Knox days. *
Vince McMahon came back last night. He staged his own death. He wants to fight the government and get his family back together. He also seemed to potentially try to kill himself for real, but Jonathan Coachman stops him because he’s being served with a paternity suit. Well, the recap of all that was very confusing.
Kevin Thorn attacks Stevie Richards during a backstage interview. Arn Anderson, Mike Rotunda, and a couple of geeks put a stop to it.
CM Punk def. John Morrison
The commentators show that they don’t understand the rules, saying that Morrison will work slower than usual because he wants to use as much of the 15 minute time limit as possible. That makes no sense, since Punk gets a title shot if he lasts the full 15 minutes, so Morrison is the one who wants to put Punk down quickly. They also say that Punk has to quicken the pace of the match. How are they not getting this? About 12 minutes into the match, Styles finally starts to understand the rules and Tazz tries to make it seem like he was on the same page the whole time. To be fair to them, Morrison also didn’t wrestle like he understood the rules, stopping to pose quite a bit. As such, the match fell a bit flat, certainly more so than their last PPV match. The final minute was kind of fun, except for when Morrison botched his own finisher. Punk won with five seconds left in the time limit, putting an exclamation mark on his claim to his number one contendership. **¾
