WWE ECW 49

May 15, 2007 – Baltimore, Maryland

Rob Van Dam def. Snitsky
Snitsky lost this one by disqualification after hitting RVD with a chair. It’s a shame, because RVD was dragging Snitsky to a reasonably entertaining little match. Maybe it was for the best, who knows how long they could have gone without something gnarly happening. *½

CM Punk def. Stevie Richards
I’ve seen enough nothing matches between these two to last a lifetime. Punk’s ribs are taped up after the damage Marccus Cor Von & Elijah Burke did to him last year. This was no better than any of their other interchangeable matches. *¾

The New Breed are getting ready for their main event match. Matt Striker is still getting crap for losing to the Major Brothers.

Kevin Thorn def. Nunzio
Just another boring squash. There were way too many of those on this show. N/A

Extreme Expose is back to using their old, generic rap music. It’s amazing how much less sexy these three seemed each week that they did these spazzy dances.

Bobby Lashley def. Elijah Burke, Marcus Cor Von & Matt Striker {Handicap Match}
This match did a good job of making Lashley look invisible going into the PPV, though the action was as basic as it gets. I guess the Punk vs. Burke match is being built on Punk being so hurt that the loser Burke might have a chance against him. **

Speaking of the PPV, here are the ECW matches from Judgment Day.

May 20, 2007 – St. Louis, Missouri

Bobby Lashley def. Vince McMahon, Shane McMahon & Umaga {ECW Championship Handicap Match}
Vince suddenly had hair again. This was fun, and Lashley won in like 90 seconds or something by pinning Shane. Then the bad guys beat up Lashley after the match and Vince got on the microphone and said that since Lashley didn’t pin the champion he didn’t win the title. That’s some WCW crap right there. *

CM Punk def. Elijah Burke
Nobody ever called Punk a miracle worker, and this match was no miracle. It really wasn’t much of anything at all. This went about fifteen minutes and felt twice as long. Burke just doesn’t have the goods for a PPV singles match, and this match proved that. They had a few nice bursts and Punk’s selling was alright, but it just wasn’t interesting at all. **¼
